This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units (“Spirit Commercial”). Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, one of Boeing’s three business units and the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Spirit Commercial’s core products include fuselages, pylons, nacelles and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Summary:

Perform repairs in a FAA approved Repair Station, working to structural repair manuals, component maintenance manuals and aircraft maintenance manuals, as well as other approved repair instructions from the manufacturer or customer.

Location: Dallas, TX

  • Team with others to perform maintenance,repair and overhauls to a wide variety of structural and non-structural fiberglass, acrylic and other composite and metal parts, and nacelle assemblies.
  • Work from approved repair manuals and documents, process specifications, quality control requirements, drawings and established processes and procedures, to assure the timely delivery of quality products to the customer.
  • Perform multi-tasking and multi-machine operation where applicable.
  • The company will provide appropriate assistance in job training to enable employees to perform all necessary repair job functions including utilizing lay-up tools, which include both optical and hard tools, in the repair and rework of composite assemblies.
  • Obtain required information from maintenance manuals,prints, charts, sketches, work orders, documents, verbal and electronic information.
  • Use shop mathematics and precision measuring instruments to-complete work assignments.
  • Familiarity with metric system required.
  • Must verify work performed is per work instruction and meets process-and/or engineering specification.
  • Ensure equipment and tool certification occurs per procedure.
  • Use and control of solvents and cleaning solutions in the preparation of details, tools, and assemblies for bonding and finishing per established procedures.
  • May be required to perform touch-up and finishing applications.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of their daily work duties (e.g., replacing machine filters, changing standard light bulbs on machines and equipment, maintaining lubrication/coolant levels, etc. as related to basic Total Preventative Maintenance duties).
  • Routinely move product within the Repair Station work area using shop assigned equipment as required. 
  • Support the continuous flow of product within the maintenance,repair, and overhaul process by training and assisting employees at all classification levels.
  • Airframe license preferred or willingness to pursue FAA Part 65 certification, (Repairman's certificate or Airframe license).
  • Experience working with maintenance and repair documents such as aircraft maintenance manuals (AMM's), structural repair manuals(SRM's), and component maintenance manuals (CMM's), service bulletins,service letters, and Airworthiness Directives.
  • Willingness to travel,domestically and internationally, on short notice, for long periods of time, to support customer maintenance requirements or Spirit business-needs.
  • Must comply with Anti-Drug and Alcohol program requirements (FAA-required random testing for safety sensitive work).
  • Employee must successfully pass initial screening to begin work in the repair station.
  • Pre-authorize background checks upon Company requests. Level C employee-is able to perform the functions of the Repair Station Level C Mechanic,such as Assist in placing vacuum and pressure bags over and inside wrapped parts and tools, and test for leaks.
  • Cut fabrics and composite materials to size using knives, shears, automated material cutters etc.Hand and machine finish parts to required tolerances and fit into completed assemblies.
  • Sand, polish molds, and/or bond assembly tools to obtain smooth surfaces.
  • Apply parting agents to molds and bond assembly tools.
  • Operate measurement and testing equipment, machines, and devices in accordance with established procedures.
  • Load, locate, and unload,parts and assemblies.
  • Disassemble, clean and prepare assemblies to accomplish rework, repair or change in corporation on completed assemblies.
  • Sealer will seal parts, assemblies and sub-assemblies fillet and fay, apply leveling compound or scotch cast, etc.
  • Mix and apply bonding adhesives to details and assemblies using films, spray, pour coating, roller coating and robotics equipment.
  • Spray or brush primer and final finish application. (touch up only) Sub-Assembly # Assemble-parts to make sub-assemblies using templates, jigs, and fixtures, to facilitate repairs.
  • Remove and replace parts and/or sub-assemblies 
  • Other directly related duties as requested and required.

Required:

  • This is a DOT safety sensitive position and requires participation in a DOT drug screen and random screenings.
  • Must have 5 years structures assembly expereince.
  • All applicants must be willing and able to work any shift, including alternative work weeks

Preferred:

  • 777, 757 and 737, thrust reverser, inlet, fan cowl experience preferred.
  • Repair Station Mechanic experience.

Pay: is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range: $29.88 - $42.93
