The Opportunity

Are you ready to shape the future of maritime surveillance and sustainment? Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) — in partnership with the ADF and the Commonwealth — is seeking a Principal Structures & Mechanical Systems Engineer to join our P-8A Poseidon Sustainment Operations Engineering Team.

This is a rare chance to work on one of the world's most capable maritime surveillance platforms as we deliver major capability upgrades and sustain the operational fleet. If you're an aircraft structures or mechanical systems engineer who thrives on complex engineering challenges, technical leadership and collaborative delivery, we want you.

This role is based onsite at RAAF Base Edinburgh.

Why this role matters

  • Play a pivotal role in introducing and sustaining advanced P-8A capabilities that protect Australia's maritime borders.
  • Lead and mentor an experienced engineering team delivering safety-critical, regulated aircraft modifications and sustainment under DASR Part M and Part 21.J.
  • Work directly with Defence stakeholders, RAAF maintenance organisations and international Boeing teams to deliver mission-critical outcomes.

What you'll do

  • Provide technical leadership and control of the P-8A Structures & Systems team, including work management, task review/approval and mentoring.
  • Deliver engineering and technical support for P-8A sustainment, repairs and modifications across operations and deeper maintenance.
  • Support System Safety by contributing to Risk Assessments, Risk Reviews and participating in Safety Working Groups/Boards.
  • Provide technical input to Configuration Management and support development, incorporation and service release activities.
  • Engage in DASR Part 21.J certification activities and compliance demonstration for design changes.
  • Scope and develop RAAF-unique aircraft modifications to enable new capabilities.
  • Liaise with Defence stakeholders to coordinate delivery of sustainment services, and hold / work towards relevant DASR engineering delegations/authorities.

Who we're looking for

  • Demonstrated experience in aircraft stress analysis, aircraft modification design or aircraft repairs.
  • Must hold Tertiary qualification in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering that satisfies Engineers Australia membership requirements (MIEAust).
  • Engineers at all experience levels are encouraged to apply — there may be multiple roles across levels.

What BDA offers

  • Work on cutting-edge projects and cross-platform opportunities within a global Boeing community.
  • Attractive remuneration, annual bonus and salary packaging options.
  • Flexible working arrangements (work from home, compressed weeks, part-time options).
  • Formal mentoring, training and paid study leave.
  • Health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including discounts, Employee Assistance Program, flu vaccinations and paid parental/Defence leave.
  • Reward and recognition programs and active social & community groups.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
