The Boeing Company is looking for an F-22 Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer to join our team at Edwards AFB, CA on second shift. We are seeking an individual who can provide Instrumentation Operations Engineering support for the F-22 Combined Test Force (CTF) at Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB), California.

 Edwards AFB is the home of the 412th Test Wing and the 2nd largest Air Force base. The wing oversees base day-to-day operations and provides support for over 10,000 military, federal civilian and contract personnel assigned to a 481-square mile installation. The 412th Test Wing plans, conducts, analyzes, and reports on all flight and ground testing of aircraft, weapons systems, software and components as well as modeling and simulation for the U.S. Air Force. There are three core components for this mission: flying operations, maintenance and engineering.

The Boeing Company supports multiple platforms at Edwards AFB. This posting is for the support of the 411th Flight Test Squadron, F-22 Combined Test Force (CTF) where Boeing works directly with our Air Force customer and our industry partners supporting its mission to improve the warfighting capabilities of the Air Force through system integration, development, test and evaluation of the F-22 Raptor.

The site is comprised of a diverse team of Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) employees who are extremely motivated, skilled, knowledgeable, and highly valued by our customers and business partners.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate, Mid-level and Senior Level F-22 Flight Test Instrumentation Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops and documents standardized test methods and processes to ensure repeatability and productivity

  • Leads the development of test procedures and test points

  • Applies lessons learned to the improvement of test procedures

  • Designs calibration system/test fixtures. Develops data processing tools and algorithms

  • Guides others in the operation of test hardware, software and systems to achieve test requirements

  • Leads the analysis, processing and formatting of data to customer requirements

  • Approves test data prior to delivery to customer

  • Formulates expectations for test data based on historical data

  • Performs functions as required to ensure calibration system readiness and data validity

  • Works as a team to solve problems and willing to train others

  • Works under minimal direction

  • Read / Redline / Modify Instrumentation Drawings

  • Generate Instrumentation Flight Test Service Orders (FTSOs)

  • Provide Mission Control Room Support

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

This position requires ability to obtain F-22 program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 3: 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Level 4: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance

  • Active F-22 program access

  • Previous F-22 experience is highly desired

  • Flight test background and experience with aircraft instrumentation system design, implementation and application in flight test environment

  • Experience with data system design and acquisition, and instrumentation software, and demonstrated ability to provide technical solutions to a wide range of instrumentation challenges as they arise

  • Experience in Mission Control Room support, Pre-flight and Post-flight activities, on and off-site anomaly troubleshooting, modification direction and oversight along with generating engineering instructions for all instrumentation related activities, interfacing with system and program design teams, as well as suppliers, in support of instrumentation system requirements definition and implementation

  • Knowledge and experience with TTC CAIS and Network based data acquisition components

  • IADS S/W suite, MATLAB and Microsoft Office tools are highly desired

  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-functional teams, plan and organize personnel and task assignments, evaluate requirements in support of proposal development, and understand/utilize the basic tenants of project management are highly desired

  • Experience with aircraft instrumentation systems, data systems design and acquisition

  • Must possess a working knowledge of electronics and experience in electronics troubleshooting techniques and tools, including multi-meters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and other common laboratory equipment

  • Experience with troubleshooting or using pressure transducers, strain gages, and or accelerometers

Typical Education/Experience: 

Associate (Level 2)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range for associate level: $85,850 – $116,150

Summary pay range for mid-level: $102,000 – $138,000

Summary pay range for senior level: $121,550 – $164,450
