Phantom Works is Boeing Defense, Space and Security’s (BDS) sophisticated research and development organization that is responsible for engaging customers through groundbreaking visual modeling and simulation; innovating cross-cutting concepts and technologies; prototyping solutions to extend current products and win new programs; and developing new businesses and entering new markets.

Phantom Works Estimating is seeking an Estimating and Pricing Specialist (Associate or Experience) to join our team in El Segundo, CA. Our team is open to a broad range of experience levels including Level 2 and Level 3 Specialists to find the best fit for the position.

In this role you will be responsible for the development of estimates (labor, material, travel, etc.) and cost/price proposals for new business activities. The ideal candidate will possess critical thinking, problem solving and negotiation skills. They will also be able to lead projects with little direct supervision while working under tight deadlines.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, estimates, and prices from technical requirements through the design, build, and aftermarket support stages of the program

  • Participates in evaluation of requests for proposal, substantiates routine estimates/pricing and assembles price proposals

  • Performs analyses and provide recommendations in support of pricing and estimating (risk, financial, competitive, etc.)

  • Coordinates and collaborates with proposal teams and cost element functional owners to develop appropriate basis of estimate and substantiation of cost estimates, proposals and other related business decision data

  • Supports the development/application/maintenance of rates and factors for estimating, pricing, and proposals

  • Identifies, assesses and implements changes to processes, tools and techniques to simplify estimating and pricing methodologies and improve cost estimating accuracy

  • Provides fact-finding, negotiation and audit support of cost proposal artifacts and coordinate responses through proposal teams

  • Supports, prepares and briefs senior leader-level presentations

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree ‘s or higher

  • 1+ years of experience with the Microsoft Excel application using: formulas, VLookups, pivot tables, charts, filters, and linking worksheets

  • 1+ years of experience in a business-related role

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with United States Government (USG) Cost Accounting Standards and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)

  • Experience using data analysis to drive decision making and the understanding of the proposal process

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range (Associate, Level 2): $79,050 - $106,950

Summary Pay Range (Experienced, Level 3): $ 100,300 - $135,700
