Summary:

Act as the preeminent subject matter expert and technical consultation for aeronautical charting and/or aeronautical technical data.  Provide technical leadership for the evolution of industry standards and provide advice of the impacts of those standards for the design, maintenance, and evolution of existing and new products and services of the highest complexity and financial importance.  Influence business and technical decisions, both internally and externally, as a recognized industry expert in state-of-the-art navigation technologies.  Write original, technical data and documents for use in product technical specifications, industry papers, and marketing materials.   Participate in external committee work assignments and represents the Jeppesen, as required or requested.

Position Responsibilities:

Provide broad, high-level enterprise-wide technical support services for the aviation domain.  Broad support includes the ability to support multiple products, such as NavData, Charting, Airport Moving Maps, flight planning and dispatch products.  The following detailed list contains the functions to accomplish that support:

  • Acts as an official company representative and is a member of or actively leads designated external committees, forums, working groups and professional organizations.
  • Acts as a liaison between Jeppesen and Regulatory Authorities, such as the FAA to explain and resolve highly complex technical issues related to Jeppesen products.
  • Provides technical leadership in the design, maintenance, and evolution of existing and new products and services of the highest complexity and financial importance.  Designs advanced aeronautical navigation or planning products.  Designs, develops and engages in complex projects with mission partners.   Assesses data and system use, revises requirements and recommends upgrades.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with designated business units and operation units within Jeppesen, as directed.
  • Writes original, technical data and documents for use in product technical specifications, industry papers, and marketing materials
  • Influences business and technical decisions, both internally and externally, as a recognized industry expert in state-of-the-art navigation technologies.
  • Knowledge in the human factor as well as avionics certification aspects of flight deck displays and EFB functions.  Provide historical technical perspectives, and projects strategies and related decision requirements to achieve business unit initiatives.
  • Maintains a state-of-the-art knowledge of industry practices involving aviation products, services, activities, technologies, initiatives, and developments.

  • Demonstrates the ability to solve complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious.
  • Initiates assignments and determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work may be checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than formal review by a superior. May have responsibility for leading the work of a team.
  • Develops advanced technical ideas and guides their development into final product.
  • Serves as organization spokesperson on advanced projects and programs.  Acts as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies.
  • Demonstrated effective and diplomatic verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Applies advanced job principles, theories, and concepts.  Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts as well as advanced job practices, techniques, and standards.  Recognized as a job expert within the company.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical areas related to aviation disciplines or equivalent combination of related training, proficiency and experience.
  • Ten or more years of related aviation navigation data management, flight standards or airline operations experience.
  • Ten or more years working in external aviation standards committees.
  • Domestic and International travel expected to be at least 25%

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range:

Level 5 $157,250.00-$212,750.00
