The Boeing Company is looking for a  Configuration Synthesis Engineer to join the Platform Concepts team in Huntington Beach, California.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including : Senior and Principal Configuration Synthesis Engineer.

The Platform Concepts team explores the integration of new and advanced technologies on commercial and defense aerospace platforms, both manned and unmanned, and across all flight regimes from subsonic to hypersonic.  You’ll be joining a team that owns designs from clean sheet concept to flying demonstrator, transitioning new technologies to future products.

Position Responsibilities

  • Synthesize conceptual and preliminary aerospace/aeronautical vehicle configurations from customer and mission requirements.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams performing vehicle or system level trade studies, coordinating inputs across disciplines (aero, structures, propulsion, stability and control, systems, manufacturing, certification) to deliver coherent configuration baselines.
  • Focal aircraft flight simulation laboratory facilities and activities
  • Lead or support business strategy, business capture and intellectual property development activities
  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineers and promote best practices in conceptual/preliminary design and configuration synthesis. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Experience leading multi‑discipline optimization and program‑level configuration studies.
  • Proficiency with conceptual design tools and methods, including: mass properties estimation, preliminary aerodynamics/performance codes, sizing and mission analysis methods, packaging/layout and CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, NX).
  • Experience leading capture efforts or serving as a technical lead on proposal teams.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD)  
  • Experience with analysis automation and scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB) and integration of analysis tools into workflows.
  • Experience leading flight simulation facilities, V&V programs, or test capability development.
  • Demonstrated involvement in IP generation, invention disclosures, or patent activity
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Successful track record of mentoring and building technical capability

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range Senior: $176,800 - $239,200

Summary Pay Range Principal: $210,800 - $285,200
