Boeing Research & Technology is looking for an Associate orMid-Level Materials, Processes, and Physics Engineer that provides support of Integrated Product Teams (IPT's) serving Boeing’s Space Exploration programs, primarily the Space Launch System (SLS), in Huntsville, Alabama.

As a member of this team, the engineer will perform detailed NASA manned space requirement compliance assessments against M&P parts requirements for Boeing-delivered hardware, with a focus on requirement verification, hardware anomalies, and testing. The successful candidate will help support M&P requirement definition, control, and verification through all stages of hardware development, testing, and sustainment. Daily activities include: working with designers and other technical disciplines for engineering drawing release, production facility support, subcontractor/supplier interface, requirements verification and the preparation of contract deliverables, and hardware anomaly resolution support.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review routine product engineering designs for compliance to NASA M&P requirements and provides recommendations and/or technical acceptance rationale when a requirement noncompliance is realized whether in the design, manufacturing, and/or test phase of the hardware lifecycle

  • Collect information to support definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the manufacturing and engineering design of products

  • Incorporate changes to specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of materials, parts and processes

  • Assist with performing tests to qualify new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements

  • Assist with activities to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements

  • Assist with activities to support subcontractor deliverable verification, such as reviewing supplier processes, supporting regular supplier interface meetings, and review and approval of supplier contract deliverables (to include MIULs and MUAs)

  • Supports waiver initiations to completion with strong customer collaboration for non-compliances to M&P requirements

  • Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions

  • Participate in routine sustaining engineering evaluations

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 1+ years experience working on engineering development programs

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience or coursework in material science, materials, metallurgy, mechanical or aerospace engineering

  • Experience with M&P requirements implementation and verification on a Space Program

  • Experience on a NASA developmental program

  • Experience with material processing and manufacturing techniques

  • Experience with material testing and material properties development

  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering documents, specifications, and drawings

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate across multiple disciplines with internal and external customers

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2)

Bachelor's degree and typically 2 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Mid-level (Level 3)

Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range (Level 2): $77,350 - $104,650

Summary pay range (Level 3): $95,200 - $128,800
