The Boeing Space Mission Systems (SMS) organization is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Integrated Design Engineering (IDE) Manager to lead the IDE capability for the Rapid Space Capability (RSC) program portfolio in Kent, WA.

As the Senior Design Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of first-line managers, technical lead engineers, and spacecraft design and analysis engineers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering management and a proven track record of successfully leading high non-recurring development projects, as well as supporting space hardware fabrication and integration.

This position reports to the Director of the SMS IDE capability and will include a program leadership role for one or more current development programs requiring accountability to RSC program management in addition to the capability director.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of first-line managers, technical lead engineers and spacecraft design and analysis engineering staff members.

  • Oversee the execution of one or more current RSC design development efforts, ensuring first-time quality, on-time engineering and adherence to project schedules and budgets.

  • Manage all staffing needs, determine critical skills, forecasts, obtains and manage personnel, facilities, services, equipment, and tools to meet project and organizational needs.

  • Champion employee recognition, increase employee satisfaction and ensure workplace safety.

  • Convey organizational messages, business vision, and strategies to the workforce.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including program management, systems engineering, supplier management and manufacturing, to ensure successful integration of space hardware.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Drive engineering initiatives and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the IDE capability.

  • Collaborate with the capability director and program management to develop and execute strategic plans for RSC programs and integration across the SMS Design Engineering portfolio.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 1+ years’ experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • 1+ years’ experience with space segment hardware development.

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in engineering and/or organizational leadership / program management.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: BS and 20 or more years' experience, MS with 18 or more years' experience or PhD with 15 or more years' experience.

  • Space vehicle and/or launch vehicle hardware experience.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations

Summary pay range: $191,250-$258,750
