Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is seeking a highly skilled Entry Level orAssociateEmbedded Test and Evaluation Engineer (Level 1 or 2) with a background in the setup, configuration, and maintenance of embedded system test environments to join our exclusive team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB, New Mexico.

Work at the forefront of innovation! The selected candidate will support the hardware, firmware, and software development of electro-optical systems at the listed locations. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to advancements in technology using cutting-edge equipment at a historically significant site.

This position supports the Research and Development (R&D) mission of the Air Force Research Laboratory Optics Division in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities.  The site houses telescope research facilities ranging in size from 0.5m up to 3.5m with advanced optical systems. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the development, optimization, and maintenance of embedded electro-mechanical pointing and tracking control systems.

Position Responsibilities:   

  • Support firmware and software research development projects.

  • Implement techniques like unit testing, integration testing, system testing, and regression testing to ensure thorough firmware verification.

  • Develop specialized test tools and scripts.

  • Set up and configure test environments for embedded systems.

  • Test and validate implementation of all firmware components.

  • Troubleshoot basic firmware and software issues.

  • Develop test procedures and document test results to ensure embedded system requirements are met.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 1+ years of experience working with embedded systems

  • 1+ years of experience programming in C or C++

  • 1+ years of experience programming in Java or Python

  • Must be willing to work variable shifts; including day, evening, night and weekends

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience using various network communication protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, and HTTP

  • Experience using various testing methodologies including black box testing, white box testing, integration testing, system testing, performance testing, etc.

  • Experience in creating and maintaining test documentation, including test plans, test cases, and test reports

  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues involving both hardware and software

  • Experience using debugging tools and techniques to identify and resolve defects

  • Experience in isolating and reproducing bugs

  • Hands-on experience with setting up and configuring test environments for embedded systems

  • Experience in performance analysis using tools such as MATLAB or Mathematica

  • Experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and signal generators to analyze and troubleshoot embedded systems

  • Experience with telescopes and electro-optical systems (EO systems, electro optics)

  • Experience in OS driver development

  • Effective in small team work environment with broad responsibilities and minimal oversight

  • Active U.S Top Secret clearance

Entry Level (Level 1) Summary pay range: $66,300 - $89,700

Associate (Level 2) Summary pay range: $79,900 - $108,100
