The Boeing Company is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer - Embedded Linux Hardware Lab Focal (Mid-Level or Senior) to join the Boeing Linux Team. This position, located in Mesa, AZ, will focus on supporting the Boeing Engineering Test & Technology (ET&T) business organization.

The successful candidate will have expertise in Linux OS development and hardware in the loop (HIL) testing as well as lab automation setup and maintenance. In this role, you will develop, deploy, and maintain Linux Operating Systems for Safety-Critical and non-Safety critical applications. The Hardware Lab Focal will work across multi-disciplinary teams to design, develop, maintain, and support HIL capabilities in the Boeing Linux Lab located in Mesa AZ. The Boeing Linux lab will support development and testing of curated Linux distributions for safety-critical applications. This is a highly visible, multi-year strategic effort that impacts many product areas of the enterprise.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Mid-Level and Senior Level Software Engineers.

Position Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, document, assemble, and maintain HIL lab environments within the Boeing Linux Lab
  • Support activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software/hardware systems
  • Development of code and integration of software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met
  • Supports development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics
  • Plans, executes and documents software research and development projects
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience)

  • 5+ Years professional development experience in C/C++ programming language
  • 5+ Years professional development experience in Python programming
  • 1+ Years professional experience managing an embedded hardware lab
  • 1+ Years professional experience developing in a Linux development/operating system

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Experience designing and assembling embedded hardware test environments
  • Experience with HW debuggers (i.e. JTAG, logic analyzers, bus analyzers, etc...)
  • Experience with HIL embedded testing environments and automation techniques
  • Experience contributing to Open Source Software (OSS)
  • Experience in any combination of the following additional languages – C++, Python, Rust
  • Experience with git, gcc, clang, bazel
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Gitlab CI
  • Experience in scripting and automation using python or bash
  • Experience with yocto or buildroot
  • Experience with DO-178C software development
  • Experience with bootloaders, hypervisors
  • Experience in multiple processor families (e.g. x86, ARM)
  • Experience debugging complex software integration issues
  • Experience in aerospace and defense industry
  • 9+ or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other technical degree

Travel: Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range Mid-Level: $110,500.00 – 149,500.00

Summary Pay Range Senior: $132,600.00 – 179,400.00
