Boeing Commercial Airplanes Materials & Processes (BCA M&P) is seeking a Mid-level or Senior Metallurgical Engineer for the 787 Engineering Support Team in North Charleston, SC.  As an M&P engineer, you will define engineering requirements to develop, select, or recommend parts, materials, processes, manufacturing technologies, machinery, tools, and automation systems used in product design and manufacturing in accordance with contractual and regulatory obligations. Additionally, you will qualify new materials, parts and processes to meet requirements and manage test and audit programs to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design review and failure analysis.

  • Conduct material and part qualification.

  • Define analysis to characterize performance or determine reasons for failure of tools, materials, parts or processes to drive subsequent corrective or preventative actions.

  • Utilize project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements while incorporating environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas.

  • Effective communication, organization and team-oriented skills

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • 3+ years’ experience in Engineering and Manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years’ experience interpreting engineering drawings and specifications related to metallic materials and metals processing

  • Experience with metallographic sample preparation and lab work (cutting, polishing, etching)

  • Proficient with aerospace metals technology

  • Experience with machined parts qualification

  • Experience with forging qualification

Pay Range Summary:

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only.  Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Mid-Level: $112,200 - $151,800

Senior Level: $136,850 - $185,150
