The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking a highly-motivated and energetic Flight Engineering Senior Manager to join the Vertical Lift Division in Ridley Park, PA or Mesa, AZ. This position will lead the Vertical Lift Flight Technology team.

Position Responsibilities:  Your duties as a manager will include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead the Vertical Lift Flight Technology Team, performing engineering and technical activities in Flight Performance and Aerodynamics including Computational Fluid Dynamics; Acoustics; Propulsion technology; Mass Properties Management; Aerothermal Engineering; Flight simulation, Control Laws and Handling Qualities; Loads and Dynamics; Electromagnetic Effects; Wind Tunnel and Flight Testing.

  • Lead, inspire and guide a team of managers supporting design and analysis to ensure rotorcraft products meet performance, weights and balance requirements and have acceptable handling qualities, loads and dynamics characteristics, and electromagnetic characteristics using Boeing and industry standard state-of-the art tools, laboratory, wind tunnel, ground and flight tests.

  • Provide technical leadership, participating at a detailed technical level in the development of solutions to all Vertical Lift programs and related research and development programs.

  • Partner with Program Chief Engineers and program leadership to drive efficient execution of program commitments.

  • Support new business development efforts as needed.

  • Drive for improvements to our core development processes through implementation of the digital thread, model based systems engineering, advanced analytics and AI, and automation of processes and tools.

  • Work with BDS Flight Systems leadership to align staffing and initiatives across BDS.

  • Drive the continued development and advancement of the organization through mentoring, TLE, recruiting, retention, and overall organizational development initiatives

  • Collaborate across Boeing to bring the best of Boeing capability to Vertical Lift and share the best of Vertical Lift capability across Boeing

  • Partner with Phantom Works and Phantom Works Flight Technology group to advance the future of Vertical Lift platforms

  • Drive industry participation in conferences and associations to help develop technical depth and increase the reputation of Boeing

  • Some travel required.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. secret clearance Post Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):

  • Engineering degree or equivalent required.

  • Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Rotorcraft Flight Performance and Aerodynamics; Mass Properties; Aerothermal Engineering; Flight Simulation, Control Laws and Handling Qualities; Loads and Dynamics.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Technical skills: Knowledge of wind tunnel and flight testing of rotorcraft.

  • Knowledge of preliminary design and sizing process for rotorcraft.

  • Knowledge of applicable Military Specifications; Industry and Customer knowledge; Familiarity with rotorcraft industry including capabilities and products of Boeing and our competitors; In depth knowledge of capabilities, practices and resources of US DoD engineering organizations such as  NAVAIR, SRD and ADD. Proven ability to resolve technical issues and capture R&D programs.

  • Project Management Skills: Knowledge of program management best practices; Knowledge of estimating tools including earned value reporting systems; Knowledge of proposal preparation processes.

  • Management Skills:  Experience leading engineering teams

Typical Education/Experience: 

Engineering degree or equivalent required.

Pay & Benefits:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range AZ: $198,900 - $269,100

Summary pay range PA: $212,500 - $287,500
