Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) Engineer to join our Vertical Lift team in Ridley Park, PA, as part of the Chinook program, a cornerstone of military aviation known for its exceptional versatility and performance.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the Chinook helicopter meets stringent reliability and maintainability standards throughout its lifecycle. Your expertise will be critical in conducting comprehensive data and reliability analyses, developing effective maintenance strategies, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to identify and address potential failure modes. The ideal candidate will combine a solid foundation in R&M principles with strong data management, coding, statistical analysis, and data visualization skills. The role involves analyzing field maintenance records and sensor data to uncover trends, predict failures, and drive data-informed decisions to improve aircraft reliability and availability. Join us in supporting the Chinook program and contributing to the success of missions around the world as part of our dedicated team in Ridley Park.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Reliability Predictions and Analysis: Develop and maintain reliability predictions for systems and components, utilizing statistical methods and historical data to forecast performance. Conduct detailed reliability assessments and analyses to evaluate the performance and durability of Chinook systems and components throughout their lifecycle.

  • Failure Mode and Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA): Lead and perform FMECAs to identify potential failure modes, their criticality, effects, and develop strategies to mitigate risks

  • Failure Analysis and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA): Support and lead failure analysis, investigate and identify root causes (RC), develop and implement corrective actions (CA). Monitor the RCCA to ensure the corrective actions are effective and sustainable. Continue improving the Chinook Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) process.

  • Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM): Apply RCM principles, including Maintenance Steering Group-3 (MSG-3) principles, to ensure that the Chinook helicopter is maintained at its inherent levels of reliability and safety while supporting optimization activities

  • Data Analysis & Modeling: Perform detailed analysis of field maintenance records, failure reports, sensor data, and operational logs to identify reliability trends, failure modes, and performance anomalies. Apply statistical analysis (e.g., Weibull analysis, reliability curves) and machine learning to forecast system and component performance.

  • Database Management: Utilize expertise in relational databases and big data systems to manage, extract, and manipulate large volume of unstructured and structured data.

  • Coding and Automation: Write scripts (Python, R code, SQL, Visual Basic, HTML, etc.) to automate data extraction, data cleansing or transformation, and data analysis. Develop and maintain tools to improve data quality processing and keep a healthy R&M ecosystem.

  • Reporting & Visualization: Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using data visualization tools to communicate key reliability metrics, trends, and findings.

  • Statistical Analysis: Apply knowledge of statistical concepts and applicability to reliability and maintainability products.

  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with design, safety, systems, logistics engineering team, and technical publications to ensure that reliability and maintainability considerations are integrated into the product development process

  • Documentation and Compliance: Ensure that all R&M activities are well-documented and comply with relevant industry standards and regulations

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance reliability and maintainability processes and practices

  • Training and Support: Provide training and support to maintenance personnel and other stakeholders on R&M principles and best practices

  • Customer Interaction: Engage with customers and end-users to gather feedback on reliability and maintenance issues and incorporate their insights into R&M strategies.
