BTI is the preferred provider of technologies and innovation across the entire Boeing enterprise. We work across the complete product lifecycle of Boeing's commercial aircraft, military aircraft, rotorcraft, space vehicles, UAVs, and advanced vehicle prototypes. We provide innovative support for current and future products and services, act as global scouts for innovative technologies, and solve our customers' most difficult technology challenges.

Materials & Structures (M&S) is focused on discovering, developing, and transitioning innovative structures technology into Boeing products. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in the design and repair of aircraft structures and materials – including expertise in composites. This role requires a versatile engineer who can drive collaborative research initiatives, support the capture of internal (IRAD) and external contracted R&D (CRAD) programs, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to address challenges to Boeing platforms.

What you’ll do

  • Develop, maintain, and modify structural and interior payload system and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and/or other design methods.
  • Create and maintain fully annotated 3D part assembly definitions using Model Based Definition (MBD) practices.
  • Hands-on working directly with fabrication and shop-floor teams to translate conceptual designs into development parts. Rapidly iterating, validating, and improving structural components to optimize manufacturability, cost, quality, and schedule.
  • Lead projects and technical teams to develop and mature structural concepts – including composite materials and structural repair.
  • Collaborate across global, cross-functional teams and with external partners (industry, academia, government) to capture and manage internal and external R&D programs aligned to Boeing strategy.
  • Support both commercial and defense projects; meet export-control and security clearance requirements.
  • Investigate emerging technologies and contribute to transition strategy onto product programs.

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or similar).
  • 3+ years of experience with aircraft structural design
  • 3+ years of experience using CAD Tools
  • Demonstrated leadership of R&D or technical teams and projects.
  • Ability to obtain U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required for clearance).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise using CATIA and Model Based Definition (MBD) for primary structure design.
  • Track record of technical innovation (patents, publications, or transitioned technologies) and a proactive approach to investigating and maturing emerging technologies.
  • Experience designing and qualifying composite primary and secondary structures, including laminate design, ply-drop strategies, and damage tolerance considerations.
  • Hands‑on experience with structural repair concept development and repair validation on metallic and composite structures.
  • Practical experience working directly with fabrication and shop-floor teams to develop, iterate, and produce prototype hardware.
  • Experience managing IRAD/CRAD proposals and programs, including budget/schedule tracking and collaboration with external partners (industry, academia, government).
  • Active U.S. security clearance preferred.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range Mid-Level: $111,350 - $150,650

Summary Pay Range Senior: $135,150 - $182, 850
