Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK) Ltd are currently delivering the Long Term Training and Support Service (LTTSS) for the Apache AH-64E. To support this capability, Boeing Test & Evaluation are seeking to recruit Central Flying School (CFS) trained Apache Qualified Helicopter Instructors to fill the roles of Deputy Regimental Qualified Helicopter Instructor (DRQHI) for 3 and 4 Regts AAC, at Wattisham Flying Station.

In this role you will:

  • Deliver all aspects expected of a DRQHI in the training of AH-64E aircrew, including both ground and air training.
  • Maintain operating competency equivalent to that required of a Front Line (FL) Apache crew.
  • Contribute to the development of aircrew instructional philosophy, evaluation criteria and approach for standardising training materials.
  • Participate in ground and flight test activities in support of maintenance programs.

The AH-64E Aircrew Instructor is responsible for:

  • Supporting the RQHI in the delivery of their role.
  • Supervising the Regts aircrew and instructors.
  • Delivering flying and ground based training and assessments as required by the RQHIs department.
  • Executing the direction of the CO, SO and SFI as required.
  • Developing AIs in a train the trainer capacity.
  • Assisting in the assurance of flying and ground based competencies of the Regts aircrew.
  • Performing the instructional duties as aircraft captain across the AH-64E operating spectrum.
  • Flight testing of aircraft as required.
  • The management of Flying Records of the Regts aircrew.
  • Assisting with ensuring technical accuracy, completeness and quality of training products.
  • Identify risks, issues and opportunities and support the development of mitigation plans.

Some UK travel could be expected to support aircraft ferry tasks or out of area training as required.

This position is subject to contract award.

Requirements:

  • Hold, or have previously held, a Certificate of Qualification on Type (CQT) for the AH-64E or Apache Mk1.
  • Be fully aware of general aviation principles and have detailed experience of flying in the UK.  
  • Must have previously been awarded a military pilot’s flying brevet from a NATO country.
  • Must be able to pass a UK military aviation medical, preferably without limitations.
  • Able to identify when safety within the flying environment may be compromised and can be relied upon to act decisively to improve aviation safety.  
  • The role will have significant UK MoD and wider Boeing interface and therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is required.
  • Be able to obtain SC clearance.

Preferred competencies:

  • UK CFS Qualified Helicopter Instructor - A2 category. (Expression of interest are welcome from the B1 category.)
  • Hold, or previously have held, a CQT on the Apache AH-64E.
  • Recency of FL Attack Aviation operations.
  • Prior fulfilment of QHI supervisory roles (DRQHI, RQHI, SFI, Aviation Standards).
  • Additional instructional qualifications of IRE, or within electronic warfare or weapons would be beneficial.
  • Experience of instructor development or train the trainer.
  • Enhanced Air Test Qualification.
