BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 2,000 people in the UK and is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, C4ISTAR Services, Through Life Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services.

About the role:

We are looking for a Project Engineer/Aircraft Build Lead to work within the Engineering Function in Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) to support new business development as well as existing programs.

The successful candidate will provide engineering leadership to a team representing multiple skill areas, which may include internal and external resources and customers. Develop statements of work (SOW) to satisfy research and development, ongoing and new business requirements. Work with customers and management to obtain approval. Respond to changes to SOW, assess the impact and negotiate proposed changes to determine modifications to the deliverables, resources, costs and schedules. Lead project execution to complete the work statement. Identify performance metrics. Plan, identify, and coordinate the resources required over the life of the project or program. Define plans for risk mitigation and opportunity. Compare actual results to the baseline plan to assess project performance, efficiencies, productivity and lessons learned. Provide technical, business and integration leadership for the development and execution of project or team plans. Work under minimal direction.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Work lock step with the aircraft build authority Production Lead and Aircraft Crew Chief to develop a cohesive interaction to ensure compliance to regulatory boundaries and an efficient build programme and timely containment of any issues.
  • Ensure datum aircraft build adhere to build plan and any risk, issues and opportunity are mitigated and exploited in an efficient manner.
  • Focal to monitor build performance and earned value on datum aircraft.
  • Working with supplier to develop the Tier 2 daily meeting for management of the short- and medium-term plan.
  • Co-ordinate and maintain cohesive interface between shop floor and aircraft build authority planning to ensure acceptance and digestion of work.
  • Co-ordinate and maintain cohesive interface between scheduling and Manufacturing Production Planning to ensure paperwork is released in a timely manner to support build schedule.
  • Manage and maintain build schedule both tactically and statically manage changes directed to the Industrial Engineers and Planning dept.
  • Act as focal for any work interruptions and ensure they are managed to conclusion in a timely manner to contain disruption using supporting functions.
  • Manage the interfacing support cells to ensuring all supporting paperwork from Manufacturing Production Engineering and SCM for Parts dock dates support the Short, Medium- and Long-term plan.
  • Ensure compliance to all regulation requirements in support of continued airworthiness of the aircraft.       
  • Work directly with the nominated aircraft Scheduler (Industrial Engineer) to manage the build sequence and manage any changes to drive evolution of the work packages.
  • Focal for key test events and Test Readiness reviews.
  • Support and be delegate to cover for cousin Aircraft Builds leads to cover Leave and Training.
  • Act as report line back to Tier 3 meetings to the Chief Programme Engineer and Programme Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Ability to collaborate with both the engineering workforce and mechanics on the factory floor.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communications and presentation skills.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP tools such as SAP, GoldESP.
  • Computer skills and proficiency with MS Office including MS Word and, MS Excel.
  • Aircraft systems knowledge would be advantageous but not essential.

Relocation:

This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Work Authorization:

This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorization to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.

Willingness and eligibility to undergo and obtain a SECURITY CHECK/CLEARANCE is required.
