The Opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia is delivering the MQ-28 Ghost Bat, a next‑generation collaborative uncrewed combat air vehicle for the Australian Defence Force. We're seeking an experienced EHS Execution Lead to embed safety, health and environmental excellence across our extensive scope of program maintenance, operations, flight test, and air vehicle production environments.

This is a program leadership role where you'll apply EHS expertise and strong influencing skills across people, parts, processes, facilities, and equipment to enable safe, compliant and efficient program operations. You will report to the Program EHS Manager as a senior member of a high‑performing safety team to provide operational and systems support across a diverse and multifaceted scope.

You will help the program drive continuous improvement under BDA's safety management system, champion a generative safety culture, and lead EHS initiatives in complex aircraft manufacturing and flight test environments.

Why this is exciting

  • Work on a high‑visibility, super-cool, advanced defence program (MQ‑28) that combines autonomy, aerospace systems and innovative production approaches.
  • Be on the ground floor supporting Boeing's first Australian manufacturing facility in 50 years, delivering Australian military‑designed combat aircraft and redefining how advanced aircraft are made.
  • Shape the future of Australian aerospace manufacturing- your work will support national defence capability and grow local industry.

What you'll get to do:

  • Promote a culture of EHS excellence across maintenance, operations, flight test and air vehicle production environments at multiple sites.
  • Prepare and present EHS performance reports for internal and external stakeholders, evaluate outcomes, and drive continual improvement.
  • Provide senior technical oversight on complex EHS matters, deliver regulatory and program-focused EHS training, and support industrial hygiene and exposure control activities.
  • Influence stakeholders across the program, from contractors and suppliers to senior leadership, to secure buy-in for EHS initiatives and embed risk management into all our activities.
  • Support and mentor program safety specialists through technical guidance, coaching on investigations and risk assessments, sharing best practice, and fostering professional development.
  • Lead implementation of BDA EHS processes across the MQ-28 program; coordinate EHS execution and assurance plans and support the development of site-based EHS risk management documentation.
  • Conduct inspections, audits and incident investigations; recommend and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Foster a collaborative, safety-first manufacturing and operational mindset and support continuous improvement and team capability development.

Who we're looking for

  • Tertiary qualification in Health, Safety and Environment or related discipline, with significant senior EHS experience in operational/manufacturing environments (typically 5-10+ years) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience providing EHS input to equipment design, installation and commissioning plans.
  • Strong knowledge of facility layout and risk management, including movement of people/materials, ergonomics, emergency egress, machine guarding and segregation.
  • Extensive hazardous materials and chemical management experience.
  • Proven capability in incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Practical experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and thorough knowledge of Australian WHS and environmental legislation and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal direction, manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced dynamic environment, and engage stakeholders to build a generative safety culture.
  • Willingness to travel between multiple sites (primarily Brisbane, Amberley and Toowoomba; occasional interstate travel).
  • Ability to meet Defence Security and ITAR requirements (eligibility for relevant clearances required).

  • Experience in large complex projects.
  • Experience in fast paced development projects.
