Over the course of his career at Boeing in India, Rakesh has supported a range of 787 payloads programs including seat integration, plug 'n' play, curtains, floor coverings and automation. In this Q&A, Rakesh discusses how he and his team improve quality and innovate.

What is your current role?

I am supporting the 787 Interiors Responsibility Center (IRC) Curtains. The team of Design Engineers here in Chennai create the assembly and installation requirement manuals for metal tracks, fabrics, emergency exit signs installation and electrical wire routing.

How does your team innovate?

Our goal is to become the global choice for aircraft interiors. We devise innovative ways to attain higher efficiency and improve quality. We have a dedicated Automation team and are constantly maximizing the utilization of automotive tools, pushing towards multi-fold efficiency and producing first-time quality. We keep continuously improving the support and assistance tools that we use for maintaining standards and quality requirements.

My team regularly participates in innovation forums, sharing ideas for meeting the future requirements of aircraft interiors.

Why did you choose to join Boeing?

Being an aerospace engineer, it was always an aspiration to be connected with Boeing. Here one gets multiple opportunities to tap into vast and versatile learning platforms and practice them, as well. For any technical assistance, we always have mentors available for direct engagement. It is an organization where the technical career opportunities are immense, and that drives me to give my best each day.

What opportunities exist for personal and professional development?

Boeing offers an infinite source of learning, training and practicing platforms. For all skill sets there’s support and encouragement to excel in the chosen career path, be it technical or managerial, and your work is rewarded and appreciated. The most important thing is the work-life balance, which is considered of utmost importance and keeps us motivated.

My team is involved in multiple training programs, like mentor-mentee relationships that broaden our capabilities and skill sets.

It is a learner’s paradise where everyone is empowered to create a better Boeing.
