Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

The Manufacturing Engineer Level 3/4 (Advanced Capabilities Team) will design, implement, and continuously improve advanced manufacturing solutions that bridge engineering design intent to efficient, repeatable production.

This role will translate complex engineering requirements into build plans and digital work instructions, evaluate and insert advanced technology (including design model interrogation,  AR/VR opportunities, and/or digital mockups), lead 3D assembly/process analysis and simulation, and act as a change agent across manufacturing functions to architect the Production System of the future.

Primary objectives:

  • Influence &/or author standards for developing, validating, and delivering build plans, work instructions, and digital manufacturing content that enable safe, efficient, and repeatable assembly.

  • Evaluate, pilot, and scale advanced manufacturing and digital solutions with attention to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL).

  • Apply Lean and continuous improvement principles to processes supporting technology insertion.

  • Coach and enable production teams in the use of new tools, processes, and metrics.

Deliverables:

  • Process definitions for validated build plans and digital work instructions for assigned product lines or systems.

  • Simulation and analysis reports (3D assembly sequencing, time/space studies, ergonomics, tooling/fixturing recommendations).

  • TRL/MRL assessment and implementation roadmaps for advanced solutions.

  • Training modules and rollout plans for the integration of new technology within production teams.

  • Process and tool standards, best practices, and requirements for Production System future state.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain build plans, step-by-step work instructions, and associated digital assets for manufacturing execution.

  • Perform 3D process planning, spatial analysis, and virtual/physical assembly simulations; identify and mitigate manufacturing risks.

  • Integrate advanced digital tools (interactive digital mockups, AR/VR aides, simulation tools) into production workflows.

  • Apply Lean principles to identify and remove waste associated with advanced technology implementations.

  • Assess TRL and MRL as part of solution selection and plan implementations that meet production readiness criteria.

  • Define and document Production System requirements and best practices for current and future-state operations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across production systems, including metrics, KPIs, and sustainment plans.

  • Train, coach, and support production personnel on new tools, processes, and digital content.

  • Collaborate closely with design engineering, manufacturing operations, tooling, quality, safety, and PLM/PDM teams.

Competencies and Behavioral Expectations

  • Change agent mindset — able to lead by influence, build trust, and drive adoption of new processes and tools.

  • Customer-focused — understands downstream production needs and designs manufacturable solutions.

  • Collaborative — works effectively with cross-functional engineering, operations, quality, and IT teams.

  • Results-oriented — able to drive projects from pilot to scale with measurable impact.

  • Continuous learner — actively researches, tests, and applies emerging manufacturing technologies.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement. – (From GTA) We would have to follow an education exception process in order to include “experience may be considered in lieu of degree”.

  • Proficiency in 3D spatial analysis and 3D modeling software (e.g., NX, CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar).

  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience (or equivalent) with demonstrable experience in assembly/process planning and work instruction development.

  • Demonstrated ability to create build plans and detailed work instructions suitable for production teams.

  • Familiarity with PLM/PDM systems and digital manufacturing data flows.

  • Ability to author and maintain digital work instructions and visual work content that integrate with Manufacturing Execution Systems.

  • Understanding of manufacturing readiness concepts (TRL/MRL) and how they impact solution selection and deployment.

  • Ability to perform engineering analysis of design for manufacturability, assembly, and product support requirements.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Basic knowledge and hands-on experience with Boeing internal PDM and MESCi systems (or equivalent industrial PDM/MES exposure).

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills applied to manufacturing process improvements and technology integration.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with track record of influencing cross-functional teams and driving change.

  • Experience with augmented reality / virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies in manufacturing contexts.

  • 3D process planning and assembly simulation experience (e.g., JT, DMU, Delmia, Process Simulate, etc.).

  • Prior experience with advanced digital manufacturing suites (e.g., Delmia, Teamcenter Manufacturing, FactoryX, or similar end-to-end digital manufacturing platforms).

  • Formal Lean training or certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt).

  • Experience implementing/managing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) integrations.

  • Familiarity with production tooling, fixtures, and ergonomic assessment tools.

  • Demonstrated success coaching/training production teams on new manufacturing technologies and sustaining improvements.

  • Exposure to aerospace manufacturing standards and regulated environments.
