The Boeing Defense (BDS), Security, Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI&WS) has an exciting opportunity for Lead Systems Engineer (Level 5) to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG) at Seal Beach, CA.

In this key role, you will lead verification and validation (V&V) activities across a complex program while championing Lean engineering practices throughout the product lifecycle. Leveraging deep expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and advanced systems engineering toolsets, you will drive traceable, requirements-driven development from concept through system verification.

This role partners closely with systems engineers, software, hardware, test, quality, manufacturing, and program management teams to ensure that our products meet stringent technical and customer requirements while continuously advancing engineering processes.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end systems verification planning, execution, and reporting for the program

  • Develop and maintain system verification strategies, plans, procedures, and matrices

  • Ensure bidirectional traceability between stakeholder needs, system requirements, architecture, verification methods, and test results

  • Develop and maintain verification cross-reference matrices (VCRM), verification compliance documentation, and verification status reports

  • Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles to support system design, integration, and verification

  • Collaborate with software, hardware, integration, and test teams to define verification approaches and acceptance criteria

  • Identify verification risks early and develop mitigation strategies

  • Support design reviews, technical reviews, milestone reviews, and customer audits

  • Drive Lean engineering initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving engineering workflows, and increasing product quality

  • Develop engineering metrics and dashboards to measure verification progress, requirements coverage, and process efficiency

  • Mentor junior systems engineers and promote systems engineering best practices across the organization

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • This position requires an active Top Secret/ SCI U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required).  (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

  • Extensive experience leading complex systems verification and validation (V&V) activities within aerospace or defense programs

  • Proven expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and advanced systems engineering toolsets

  • Strong ability to drive Lean engineering practices and continuous process improvement across multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including software, hardware, test, quality, manufacturing, and program management in a complex, fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated success mentoring and developing junior engineers while promoting systems engineering best practices

  • Proven track record of developing engineering metrics, dashboards, and leveraging data to drive verification progress and process efficiency

  • Strong knowledge of Lean engineering principles and experience driving continuous improvement initiatives across the product lifecycle

  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance requirements relevant to defense and aerospace systems

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $176,800.00 - $239,200.00
