The Boeing Defense, Space & Security, Space Mission Systems (SMS) organization has an exciting opportunity supporting Proprietary programs and is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team in Seal Beach, California, with potential options to work from El Segundo, California, Aurora, Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Herndon, Virginia, Leesburg, Virginia or Kennedy Space Center, Florida based on program needs.

As a member of the Systems Engineering team, you will join a diverse team and apply your skills to analyze and develop system and subsystem requirements, interface control documents, support systems architecture and design, system integration, test, verification, and validation to ensure the system satisfies the intent of customer requirements.  This role involves creating innovative solutions to technical challenges, providing system support with automation, modern tools, and overseeing projects to ultimately deliver the end product.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads Ground and System Level verification, validation, integration and test

  • Leads the planning, organization, implementation of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity and technology readiness

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, and develop requirements

  • Develops and executes test plans, procedures, and verification reports

  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues

  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces

  • Performs various analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture supporting mission success

  • Writes requirements and ICDs for the ground systems

  • Supports ConOps development and product design, development, and test

  • Develops Ground Segment Operational Products in support of Space based systems

  • Supports complex system level threads required to run missions in space

  • Works with a team of engineers using scaled agile development process

  • Engages in model-based systems engineering

  • Leads, mentors, and trains others

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed locations.

This worksite participates in Boeing’s 9/80 schedule rotation. 9/80 is a rotation in which employees can work 9 hour shifts, 8 days per pay period (bi-weekly) and receive every other Friday off. 

This position requires an active U.S. Top Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • Typically, 14 or more years' related work experience

  • Possess an active Top Secret US Security Clearance (TS), or successfully complete a Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the past 5 years or agreed to enter a Continuous Vetting program such that 5 year updates are no longer required


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Excellent oral and written Communication, Adaptability, Decision Making, Customer Focus, Integrated Systems, Engineering Analysis, and Requirements/Tracing skillset

  • Experience in space systems and working with multi-discipline teams

  • Experience with Ops Product architecture, design, development, and test

  • Experience with software requirements verification testing

  • Experience with scripting languages (i.e. Python, Tcl/Tk)

  • Experience with Configuration Management tools and processes

  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework processes and tools

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $ 164,900 – $ 239,200
