The Opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia is expanding its world-class aerospace manufacturing capabilities with the new Wellcamp facility, supporting the innovative MQ-28 program. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tool Quality Technician specializing in optical measuring equipment and tooling inspection to join our dynamic team.

This role focuses on precision measurement and quality assurance for assembly jigs, tooling, and fixtures, ensuring manufacturing accuracy and assembly integrity through advanced optical measurement technologies.

What you'll do:

  • Operate and maintain optical measuring equipment including Leica laser trackers, measurement arms, and associated precision instruments.
  • Inspect and verify assembly jigs, tooling, and fixtures to ensure dimensional conformity and compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Conduct detailed measurements and geometry verifications to support assembly processes and tooling accuracy.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve tooling and assembly issues identified through measurement data.
  • Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and quality checks on optical measurement systems.
  • Document inspection outcomes, maintain tooling and calibration records, and support quality management system compliance.
  • Assist with the setup and validation of new assembly tooling and fixtures within the Wellcamp production environment.
  • Provide training and support to production staff on the proper use of optical measurement tools and inspection techniques.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing measurement reliability, tooling quality, and production efficiency.
  • Adhere to safety standards and practices consistent with Boeing Defence Australia's Go for Zero safety culture.

Your experience and skills:

  • Proven experience using optical metrology equipment such as Leica laser trackers, articulated measurement arms, and similar precision tools.
  • Solid understanding of assembly jigs, tooling, and fixture measurement for aerospace or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and assembly specifications.
  • Experience conducting tooling inspections, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing checks, and tooling calibration.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across engineering, quality, and manufacturing departments.
  • Commitment to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and safety compliance.
  • Familiarity with quality documentation and reporting procedures.
  • Australian citizenship with the ability to gain and maintain a Department of Defence security clearance (SECRET or above).
  • Willingness to develop complementary skills in metrology software and quality processes.

Training and Cross-Skilling Opportunity

You will have the opportunity to broaden your skillset through cross-training in other areas such as calibration, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). This training is designed to support workload peaks, troughs, and holiday coverage, ensuring a flexible and capable team.
