Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems (SI&WS) is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to act as the Chief Engineer in support of the Rocky Program in Albuquerque, NM.

The Boeing Company’s Responsive Space is a portfolio of programs that is part of Boeing Space Mission Systems (SMS) within Boeing SI&WS.  The Rocky Chief Engineer will assure all technical aspects of the Rocky program are executed properly including product definition, validation, software and systems engineering, design integration, test and evaluation, and certification for the Boeing team and all associated supplier work content.  The Rocky Chief Engineer will also oversee the development of multi-disciplined skills, model-based tools, and standardized processes to deliver engineering through the lifecycle of the program. 

NOTE: Domestic Temporary Assignment (DTA) benefits can be offered for eligible candidates (up to two years).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for technical leadership, problem resolution, and engineering processes associated with executing the Rocky program including systems level hardware design, subsystem production, assembly, integration, verification testing, and sustainment.
  • Works with the IPT technical lead engineers to identifies problems before they become crises and resolves them effectively.
  • Partners closely with Site Leadership, Program Managers, Capability Directors, Business Chief Engineers and IPT leads to maintain consistent design and project direction, develop policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Assures the programs are properly managing the technical baseline, Chair Engineering Review Boards (ERB), Risk, Issue, and Opportunity (RIO) boards.
  • Assures the programs are properly executing Technical Readiness Reviews (TRR) and Failure Review Boards (FRB) to drive rapid design and issue closure.
  • Develops and executes the Engineering long term strategy to drive engineering discriminators on these key programs while demonstrating long term affordability.
  • Supports new business activities and leads engineering review assessments (ERAs) for proposals.
  • Partners closely with Program Managers and capability leads to enhance critical engineering skills and manage key personnel resources.
  • Mentors and engineers, IPT leads, managers, and technical leads.
  • Serves as senior technical interface to the customer and suppliers.
  • Implements and enforces engineering functional excellence in people, processes, tools, and practices.
  • Drives successful integration of advanced technologies into a complex system with First Time Quality (FTQ).
  • Implements Technical Independent Reviews (TIRs) and Non-Advocate Reviews (NARs) with approved personnel to ensure technical expertise across the enterprise is engaged as needed.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited course of study, in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems integration, and/or software engineering.  
  • Experience in all phases of the software development life cycle.
  • Experience with critical business and financial acumen including risk, issue, and opportunity management to drive performance.

  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.

  • Master of Science in an engineering discipline.
  • Previous management experience.

  • Leadership skills to lead and influence positive outcomes.
  • Previous experience in leading, mentoring, and engaging individuals and teams.
  • Experience providing active mentorship and career guidance.

  • Can gain trust of team and provide guidance for their careers.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $178,500 - $241,500
