Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Numerically Controlled Tube Bending Machine Operator to join our Fabrication team in Algona, Washington.

As a Numerically Controlled Tube Bending Machine Operator, you will be instrumental in transforming raw materials into precisely bent tubing components that meet exacting specifications. Your expertise in interpreting technical documents, setting up complex machinery, and fine-tuning operations ensures that each part contributes to the seamless functioning of our products. Position Responsibilities:

  • Inspect machines for missing, loose, or damaged equipment and verify safe working conditions before operation.

  • Obtain and prioritize work packages based on schedule requirements or supervisor instructions.

  • Verify material type, size, heat lot, quantity, and condition to ensure suitability for the job.

  • Review work orders, blueprints, operator documents, and CAD data to prepare for job setup or programming.

  • Identify and determine the type of machine setup required for each job.

  • Select, install, and verify condition of machine accessories and holding devices such as collets, dies, mandrels, and clamps.

  • Utilize overhead cranes to assist with tooling setup as necessary.

  • Adjust bending machine settings including centerline, collet, mandrel rod length, dies, and machine pressure to meet job specifications.

  • Perform test bends and spring back tests, measuring angles and tolerances using protractors, digitizers, or coordinate measuring platforms.

  • Use checking fixtures and patterns to verify tube bends, mark tube ends for trimming, and ensure dimensional accuracy.

  • Enter and update bend data files in the tube bending machine to correct bend angles and maintain coordinated tolerances.

  • Operate numerically controlled power bend machines to bend various sizes and types of tubing using all forms of control media.

  • Perform self-inspections and acceptance functions to verify work quality and conformance to drawings and specifications.

  • Detect machine malfunctions or faulty tools, initiate corrective actions within shop procedures, and rework tubes as needed.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials such as coolants and solvents in accordance with safety data sheets and company requirements.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience reading, understanding, and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications including blueprint/schematic readings and any airplane engineering technical documents.

  • 5+ years of experience working with precision measuring tools.

  • 5+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools.

  • 5+ years of experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

  • Basic Computer experience and competency.

  • Must be physically able to lift/carry up to 35 pounds; push/pull using up to 45 pounds of force; and reach overhead up to six hours per day.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comfortable working from high/exposed places, tight spaces and working from ladders.

  • Ability to work in noisy environments while completing tasks.

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Summary pay rate: $26.00 - $51.39 per hour
