Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for aBattery Tank Processor to join our Fabrication team in Auburn, WA.

As a Battery Tank Processor, you will be at the forefront of our chemical processing operations, responsible for the meticulous surveying of tanks and the precise addition of specified chemical compounds. This role demands a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of chemical handling procedures, as you will ensure that each additive is applied in the correct sequence and amounts to achieve optimal processing results. Your commitment to safety will be paramount, as you will be required to undergo a medical exam and respirator fit test to ensure your readiness for the tasks at hand.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform visual surveillance of tanks to identify abnormalities such as leaks, incorrect levels, and alarms.

  • Check the Tru Chem website to determine necessary additives and their quantities for each tank.

  • Assess tank levels to confirm the feasibility of adding specified chemicals.

  • Determine and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for daily tasks.

  • Collaborate with a second person to verify the correct type of chemicals before addition.

  • Safely place chemicals in designated locations using a forklift or manually, with assistance as needed.

  • Conduct a visual sweep of the work area to ensure no other employees are present during chemical handling.

  • Set up safety measures by roping off the tank area and displaying appropriate signage.

  • Communicate with operators and loaders prior to adding chemicals to the tank, ensuring control measures are in place.

  • Utilize a mixing tank to combine chemicals with a second person before transferring to the process tank.

  • Add chemicals to tanks using various methods (pump, computer, forklift, or manual) based on the specific requirements.

  • Maintain temperatures and float levels of the tanks as required.

  • Monitor and manage shop chemical inventory, reordering as necessary through Chemical Management Services (CMS).

  • Lead and provide guidance to lower-graded employees while ensuring compliance with required certifications.

  • Clean and maintain the work area post-operations, including equipment breakdown and flushing hoses.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties. 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience handling chemicals, and/or hazardous materials

  • Able to use a respirator or have been respirator certified

  • Experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools

  • Basic computer experience and competency

  • Experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years’ experience working with plating chemicals

  • Knowledge of proper disposal of hazardous chemicals

Typical Education & Experience:

  • High school graduate or GED preferred.

Summary pay range:$26.00 - $51.39 per hour
