Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Metal Spinner A, to join our Fabrication team in Auburn, Washington.

As a Metal Spinner A at Boeing, you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with advanced spinning lathes and a variety of metals, transforming raw materials into precision-engineered components that meet rigorous Boeing specifications. You will apply your expertise in interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate materials, and fabricating custom tools to ensure each part is crafted with accuracy and care. Your role will involve collaborating closely with supervisors, engineers, and quality teams to troubleshoot challenges and maintain seamless production flow. Utilizing Boeing’s state-of-the-art computing systems, you will manage critical documentation and uphold strict compliance standards, all while continuously honing your skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Position Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate spinning lathes (conventional or NC) to spin and/or flame spin various metals into required shapes or forms per drawings and Boeing (BAC) specifications.

  • Select proper materials, including blanks and spin blocks or dies, and determine correct shear size for spinning operations.

  • Understand workability and proper flame spinning temperatures for metals such as aluminum, dural, copper, steel, stainless steel, brass, and others.

  • Fabricate and maintain own spinning tools, spin blocks, shop aids, and hand forming tools as needed.

  • Read, interpret, and work from prints, sketches, tooling, engineering drawings, specifications, and verbal instructions.

  • Obtain and manage appropriate drawings, tooling, BAC specifications, and related documents using Boeing computing systems (e.g., REDARS, CMES, PSDS) as required.

  • Verify that correct materials, tools, and fixtures are issued, free from defects, and properly sized using shop math (algebra, geometry).

  • Check machine setup and parts completed by previous operators to ensure job progress and safe working conditions.

  • Load and unload machine accessories and holding devices (e.g., chucks, spin blocks) using overhead cranes and hand or power tools.

  • Perform metal spinning operations to form, trim, smooth, and deburr parts, ensuring no over-thinning during long draws.

  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, height gauges, calipers) to ensure compliance with drawings and BAC specifications.

  • Perform rework and corrective actions as required to meet quality standards.

  • Consult with supervision, engineering, planning, and inspection teams to resolve fabrication issues.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure operations are stamped complete in CMES per BAC compliance.

  • Receive daily work assignments from team leaders or supervisors and prioritize tasks accordingly.

  • Maintain personal and tool/equipment certifications as required to ensure compliance and safety.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience with using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators, etc.

  • 2+ years of experience doing jobs or tasks where you had to apply math skills such as algebra, geometry and/or trigonometry

  • 1+ years of experience in NC Machines (in conjunction with metal parts)

  • 2+ years of experience in working with blueprints, specifications, assembly drawings and standard operating procedures

  • 1+ years of experience with conventional lathe, milling, precision measuring, power, pneumatic and hand tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year(s) of experience working with various material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks and crane

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Pay: $31.32/hour, with potential to earn up to $59.47/hour in accordance with the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
