PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Principal Configuration Engineer is responsible for establishing, maintaining and reporting the product’s configuration throughout its lifecycle, supporting the conformity and certification processes.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Generate product definition by interpreting engineering documentation and associated change authorities into a format used to drive the extended enterprise / Supply Chain.
  • Standardise engineering data to ensure that it complies with engineering standards documentation.
  • Release Engineering Datasets in various PDM systems
  • Produce Engineering Bills of Material and ensure the product’s configuration information is maintained in accordance with Configuration Management rules, throughout its lifecycle.
  • Working with customers and internal functions to provide documented data management solutions for both design & build and build to print programmes.
  • Provide guidance to IPDT functions on advance material ordering.
  • Support the reconciliation process by liaising with Design, Methods, Quality and the customer to resolve and report disconnects between the Engineering Bill of Material for each component deliverable and the Quality As Built Conformity List.
  • Represent the department at meetings and presentations to provide technical leadership and expert advice on Configuration issues, to both internal and external suppliers and customers.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to staff members within Configuration Management.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that sufficient detail is provided on the application form to demonstrate how the applicant meets essential job criteria, as this alone will be used for vetting purposes.

  • Possess a minimum of a Degree in an engineering related subject together with a minimum of 4 years’ relevant configuration engineering experience OR a HNC in an engineering related subject, and a minimum of 7 years’ relevant configuration engineering experience.
  • Possess a clear and fluent understanding of Configuration Management rules and associated CM business processes.
  • Have a working knowledge of the company and customer systems associated with product configuration.
  • Be articulate and able to communicate information clearly and concisely.
  • Be able to work as part of a team both at Site and Group level.
  • Sound IT systems experience.
