The Boeing Company is seeking an AssociateWind Tunnel Operations Engineer to join our team in Berkeley, Missouri. This position is a specialized role within the Aero Test capability under Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E).

The Wind Tunnel Operations Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of wind tunnel facilities used for aerodynamic testing. This role involves collaborating with engineers, technicians, and facility maintenance personnel to ensure that wind tunnel tests are conducted safely, efficiently, and accurately, providing critical data for the development of aerospace vehicles and components.

Position Responsibilities Include:

Wind Tunnel Operations

  • Operate and monitor wind tunnel systems during testing to ensure optimal performance

  • Set up and calibrate test models and instrumentation according to specifications

  • Conduct pre-test and post-test inspections to ensure equipment integrity and safety

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

  • Coordinate routine maintenance and troubleshooting of wind tunnel equipment and systems

  • Identify and resolve technical issues that may arise during testing operations

  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to schedule and execute repairs and upgrades

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with engineers and researchers to understand testing requirements and objectives

  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations and adherence to timelines

  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to the development of testing strategies

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards during all operations

  • Conduct safety training for new team members and promote a culture of safety within the team

  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections and incident reports

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in wind tunnel operations

  • Stay updated on advancements in wind tunnel technology and testing methodologies

  • Participate in training and professional development to enhance technical skills

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final post-start U.S. Top Secret clearance and Special Program Access is required.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • Experience supporting product testing either in the flight or lab test environment

  • Able and willing to travel up to 25% of the time domestically

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience working in a flight or lab test environment

  • An active U.S. Secret or higher Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

  • Hands-on experience in wind tunnel testing

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering

Shift:

This role is primarily first shift; however, there may be additional shift requirements to support program objectives. 

Travel:

This position requires the ability to travel up to 25%, domestically to support program objectives.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $85,000-$115,000

Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
