The opportunity

We are seeking a Junior Product Support Engineer join the Product Support Centre of Excellence (CoE) Sustainment Operations Modelling & Simulation Team. The role will be based in Brisbane and will provide centralised project-based support to a range of BDA Sustainment Programs such as RAAF P-8A Poseidon & E-7A Wedgetail.

Product Support Engineering in aviation involves the application of engineering principles and analysis to ensure the supportability, sustainability, and reliability of products throughout their entire lifecycle. This role focuses on providing sustainment programs with decision-support and technical guidance on strategic asset management problems using modelling and simulation techniques.

Modelling and Simulation allows for predictive analysis of asset performance and is used to develop and verify product support requirements. We analyse historical data and build mathematical models of how assets and systems perform to forecast future trends and evaluate the impact of potential changes. This can vary from investigating options to improve asset Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), optimising the sequencing of maintenance events, or providing technical justification to support multi-million-dollar investment decisions.

The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:

  2. Creative Problem-Solving: Approaches problems with innovative thinking that challenges conventional solutions. Readily adapts ideas and strategies to new information or changing conditions.
  3. Attention to Detail: Demonstrates meticulous attention to quality and precision in work outputs. Ensures that all aspects of a project are executed according to high standards.

You will be part of the Product Support CoE team and work to provide our internal and external customers with informed-decision support for a range of technical problems. Our team has built a high level of trust with Asset Management Teams, Program Leadership, and our Customer, and you will help us continue to deliver analysis that can be trusted and acted upon.

CoreExperience and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, C#, or SQL) for data integration, analysis, and migration
  • Proficient with data integration, analysis, and migration
  • Data visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power Bi or Python packages (i.e. Plotly)
  • Engineering Degree qualified. BE in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Mechatronics desirable.
  • Understanding of Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) concepts.
  • Basic understanding of statistics (distributions, standard deviation, probabilities of events, etc.)
  • Experience using data and analysis techniques to create technical arguments and support decision making.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security and International Traffic of Arms (ITAR) requirements.

Desired Skills and Experience for Junior (P2) Position

  • Experience in Defence, aviation support, fleet planning, support and maintenance systems analysis, and/or other associated logistics engineering would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Communicating the results and outcomes of complex technical work to non-technical audiences via workshops, presentations and technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to verify and validate correctness of technical work.
  • Demonstrates an interest in personal learning and development. Seek's feedback from multiple sources about how to improve and develop
