Boeing Australia is currently seeking to recruit a Regional Sustainability Lead – Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific to be based in our Sydney or Brisbane location in a hybrid capacity.  

You will have proven ability and aviation awareness to drive regional sustainability strategies, support customer priorities, and deliver actionable outcomes. You will have demonstrated competency to engage and inspire multiple internal and external stakeholders to drive involvement and meaningful change on sustainability topics with a natural propensity to build relationships and strong business acumen to assess strengths and weaknesses of projects developed in the aviation sustainability space.

This team contributes to public policy development, partnership creation, and customer collaborations and is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and engaged professional to serve as a valuable contributor toward our public policy and partnership objectives in the field of Sustainability.

Due to the International nature of the role and business as a whole, there is the requirement to support after hours meetings and calls, however flexibility is encouraged.

Some domestic and international travel will be required.

About the Role:

This role will continue to develop and deliver Boeing’s regional strategy in public policy advocacy, partnership development and external positioning in the areas of aviation sustainability.

1. Policy

  • Track and analyze pending and existing regulation, legislation, news releases and public policy issues in the areas of aerospace and defense environmental policies, national climate policies, and the wider ESG space in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific
  • Work with internal/external stakeholders to develop advocacy plans around aviation decarbonisation in order to best represent the interests of the company in the region
  • Continue development and delivery of sustainable aviation policy and advocacy plans in the region, including through the Australian Jet Zero Council and other relevant forums
  • Advocate for policies that support aviation decarbonisation, including those which incentivise fleet renewal, operational efficiency, Sustainability Aviation Fuels (SAF), alternative technologies and market-based measures
  • Further the company position on principles of effective aviation decarbonisation policy with external institutional stakeholders including government and non-governmental organizations, customer and supplier coalitions, business associations, and policy-oriented think tanks

2. Partnerships

  • Collaborate with airline partners to deliver sustainability and business value across the region
  • Lead regional efforts to collaborate with Boeing business units (commercial, defense and services) and relevant functions (e.g. Government Operations/Affairs, Safety and Regulatory Affairs, Enterprise Sustainability, Engineering, etc.) to understand and help advance their strategies, goals, and business activities through engagements in the Sustainability space
  • Identify and help develop relevant external partnerships and collaboration opportunities in the area of sustainable aviation, with particular focus on fleet renewal, operational efficiency, SAF and market-based measures

3. Positioning

  • Partner with the Communications function and others to help tell the exciting story of Boeing’s track record and future ambition in sustainability across the region
  • Identify relevant forums to engage new audiences and to stimulate conversations around the progress made and work ahead in aviation sustainability
  • Externally represent the company’s sustainability commitment and interest by attending and speaking at conferences, on panels, and at industry (business, technology) expert workshops
  • Articulate the co-benefits of aviation sustainability in the region, including those related to economic and resilience outcomes  

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • 8 + years of combined experience in aviation and sustainability
  • Experience in policy and advocacy with regards to aviation, sustainability, government relations, and/or business development and/or issue advocacy, including stakeholder mapping
  • Advanced working knowledge of the aviation and sustainability sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategies, programs and initiatives that have clear, quantifiable outcomes

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant industry
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and the ability to articulate the strategic benefits of sustainability action
