We are seeking a talented Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Systems Technical Officer to join Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) in growing the capabilities of the world leading deployed communications systems. You will focus on leading lab and field operations and other technical work associated with the acquisition of land based multi-band transportable satellite terminal systems and associated support system elements.

The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs.

Responsibilities

  • Working as part of an integrated product team of engineers and technical staff to deliver the next generation of satellite terminals to the ADF.
  • Configure and deploy satellite terminals and modems (both military and commercial) in support of program activities, including the periodic conduct of field-based integration and test events.
  • Ensure the safe execution of activities across both lab and field environments.
  • Contribute to mission and support systems development with unique operational and technical insights, keeping the ADF End User in mind.
  • Support the work of technical and engineering staff with the correct application of relevant practices specific to communications equipment design, assembly, installation and test.
  • Drive a strong continuous improvement mindset.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential:

  • Specialist knowledge of various telecommunications technologies and products, particularly wideband SATCOM terminals and modems, and IP networks.
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and support of SATCOM systems.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to engage with a unique team.
  • Willing to travel and work in and around Brisbane. Main work locations include Brisbane CBD and Wacol, with periodic field events conducted at Defence facilities in the SEQ region.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens and eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the ADF, including but not limited to the Defence Organisational Structure, Defence Project Management and Defence Equipment Management.
  • Familiarity with Defence Communication Equipment Management (CCI and COMSEC).
  • Degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Leadership skills and ability to work effectively within a group environment and with people across all organisational levels.
  • Previous experience with the Integrated Battlefield Telecommunications Network (I-BTN) system is preferred.
