We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Lead to support our complex contracting framework in support of the sustainment, capability upgrade and future iterations of the E-7 AEW&C capability for Australia and partner nations. This is an individual contributor role, with the opportunity to lead others through mentoring and by setting a professional example.

What we're looking for

We're looking for a:

  • experienced contracts professional, preferably with legal qualifications and experience, with the skills and ability to innovate and create.
  • “can-do” self-starter with experience advising and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • proven record of delivering commercial outcomes for their customers
  • experience supporting complex projects and stakeholder sets.

Reporting to the Manager - E-7 & MQ-28 Contracts, the role requires a breadth of technical and commercial strategy responsibilities and will play a key role in supporting BDA's growth.

Key Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Provide strategic advice and support to the E-7 AEW&C program on contractual and commercial issues.
  • Deliver key commercial milestones and orders, all the while balancing the customer's requirements with advancing BDA's goals and strategies.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior customer and parent company stakeholders on all contract and commercial matters.
  • Lead contract negotiations to achieve the BDA's desired commercial outcomes.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the E-7 commercial team, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Support and mentor more junior contracts colleagues
  • Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, to achieve BDA's strategic goals.
  • Exercise appropriate signature authority in negotiating and executing contractual instruments on behalf of the company.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Essential:
    • Formal qualifications in a related discipline (Law (preferred), Business, Finance, Engineering)
    • Advanced skills in complex contracting, commercial management and negotiation
    • Strong planning and organizational skills
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop contracting specialists
    • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills
    • Strong commercial acumen
    • Excellent drafting skills
  • Desirable
    • Australian Defence industry experience
    • Knowledge of and experience working with the Australian Standard Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON) Suite of Templates
    • Demonstrated experience in formulating innovative contractual and commercial acquisition and sustainment strategies for proposals
