The Opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is shaping the future of aerospace and delivering some of the nation's most important programs for the Australian Defence Force. BDA's Operations team is looking for an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of high-impact, business-wide projects, critical to achieving our business priorities and delivering to our customers. As a Project Manager within the Operations team, you will have the opportunity to drive meaningful projects that enhance efficiency and uplift capability delivery across the broader Boeing Enterprise.

The internal projects team work on a range of projects that vary in scope, subject matter and complexity. This opportunity will allow you to engage with many stakeholders, all across the business and across multiple levels. You'll be pragmatic, solutions-driven, able to flex your skills in scope and requirements management, stakeholder engagement, technical know-how, and baseline management. The portfolio is expanding, and we are looking for an experienced project manager to take charge of an executing project, as well as scoping and developing a secondary project. Applicants with experience leading IT-related or system upgrade projects will be strongly considered.

You'll be able to further grow and develop your skills through a supportive team and structured learning opportunities, tap into a wide network of subject matter experts (SME), and contribute meaningfully to advising and mentoring others around you.

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to obtain an NV-1 Australian Defence security clearance.

Preferred location for this role is Brisbane CBD, with some domestic travel required, and an alternate location considered for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the role include:

Project planning and execution activities, such as:

  • Lead and collaborate with geographically dispersed, multi-disciplined teams for planning and execution of work packages to successful and timely completion
  • Coordinating the development and securing agreement of project requirements and deliverables
  • Development and management of project plans, schedules and budgets
  • Management of project risks, issues and opportunities, including proactive escalation and resolution of any “help needed"
  • Leading project teams and positively engaging project stakeholders

Project governance activities, such as:

  • Presenting data and being accountable for project performance at project management reviews
  • Developing and presenting data at various BDA governance councils and steering committees
  • Contributing to opportunities for process improvement
  • Engaging and influencing stakeholders across the business, at multiple levels to ensure accountability of actions and deliverables.

Experience/Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience as an executing project manager
  • Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Business, or related disciplines
  • Extensive experience in managing complex projects to successful completion
  • Experience in delivering IT-related projects is highly desirable
  • Good working knowledge on the use of the Microsoft Project software tool
  • Demonstrable experience in developing project plans, schedules, budgets, and resourcing requirements for complex projects that span multi-functional business areas, and successfully delivering to those plans
  • A great communicator, who can establish effective working relationships across all levels of the business
  • A self-starter, who can recognise what needs to be done and can work independently to develop and deliver solutions by engaging with relevant SMEs
  • A leader, who can create diverse, happy and engaged teams that band together to deliver a great product or service for the business
  • A respectful negotiator, who can recognise when to hold firm, when to compromise, how to articulate the impacts, and manage the changes.
