Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Lead Systems Engineer (Level 4) in Colorado Springs, CO.

Boeing’s Phantom Works Space SBMC2 team is seeking a highly organized and forward-thinking Configuration & Lab Operations Manager to join our team in Colorado Springs, CO. This role will combine Configuration/Data Management (CM/DM) oversight with Lab Operations support, contributing to the efficiency, compliance, and technical integrity of advanced space-ground systems development.

As part of Boeing’s innovative Phantom Works division, the SBMC2 team develops next-generation technologies and mission solutions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring both data integrity and operational effectiveness by merging responsibilities from two key functional areas (Configuration & Data Management and Lab Management) into a unified, impactful role.

Position Responsibilities

  • Review of technical and program documentation for internal consistency and compliance with Boeing and customer standards
  • Oversee configuration control and change tracking of key program work products
  • Generate and maintain CM records as evidence of compliance with CM plans and Boeing protocols
  • Review and release engineering and program documents; support Change Control Boards
  • Coordinate responses to audits, customer data calls, and configuration/data-related inquiries
  • Perform data management duties, including packaging and delivering contractual deliverables
  • Manage lab resources and equipment using continuous improvement practices
  • Coordinate and guide lab activities to ensure safety, efficiency, and alignment with technical goals
  • Provide hands-on support to cross-functional lab and engineering teams

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically and/or internationally depending on business needs.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)         

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 9+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in configuration management, data management, or lab operations
  • 3+ years of experience working with configuration control and documentation standards
  • 3+ years of experience performing process audits
  • Experience implementing or supporting Lean, Agile, or other process improvement methodologies

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

  • Familiarity with Boeing CM/DM standards, tools, and release processes
  • Hands-on experience managing workplace safety and process workflows
  • Ability to coordinate across disciplines in a fast-paced, classified development environment
  • Detail-oriented mindset with ability to enforce compliance while supporting dynamic development environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate communication between engineering, quality, and operations teams
  • Proactive problem-solver with a continuous improvement focus
  • Comfortable leading through influence and working cross-functionally across multiple teams

Typical Education & Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  Summary pay range: $119,850 – $162,150
