We are seeking a Lead Space Survivability/Radiation Effects Engineer to support natural and man-made radiation environment-related tasks at the piecepart, unit, and system levels through all satellite program phases in El Segundo, California.  The successful candidate will interface with all technical disciplines in a team environment to trade factors such as survivability, cost, weight, and technical risk in arriving at the final design.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead total ionizing dose (TID) and single event effects (SEE) part and technology characterization and qualification efforts, including in-house laser SEE testing as well as heavy-ion and proton beam testing at national laboratory facilities. 

  • Interface with program office representatives and system engineers representing other disciplines to ensure that radiation-related concerns are adequately addressed. 

  • Develop and flow appropriate unit and system level requirements in early program stages. 

  • Ensure that unit and system level designs appropriately consider radiation-related effects such as total dose (to include ELDRS and dose rate effects), displacement damage, single event effects, internal charging, IEMP, SGEMP, and TREE. 

  • Perform and document unit and vehicle level analyses. 

  • Plan and conduct testing at the piecepart, unit, and vehicle levels to support design and verify compliance with radiation-related requirements. 

  • Interface with personnel at various radiation test facilities across the country to advocate for required test time.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance/SCI for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance/SCI Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • Typically, 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.

  • 6+ years of experience in performing Single Event Effects (SEE) tests at heavy ion and proton test facilities

  • Experience in test and analysis of radiation effects in electronics to include total ionizing dose, displacement damage, SEE as well as dose rate effects

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • An Electrical Engineering degree is preferred.

  • Leading test teams in heavy-ion and proton testing environments.

  • Experience designing test fixtures and software in support of SEE testing.

  • Experience with various pieces of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, etc.

  • Experience working with multi-discipline engineering teams.

Senior Level 4 Summary pay range: $ 146,200 - $ 197,800
