The Boeing Defense & Space, (BDS) Software Engineering organization is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the LightHouse Software Intelligence Systems team in Fairfax, Virginia. The software team manages our efforts for the software development of our Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) System product line, LightHouse. Our LightHouse systems play a pivotal role in gathering and analyzing crucial Radio Frequency (RF) information which is necessary to provide actionable insights for situational awareness.

The selected manager will oversee a team of software engineers/developers working closely with our Department of Defense (DoD) Program Managers, System Engineers, Cyber Security, Information Technology, and Integration & Test group to develop and deploy software for our current product line and our next generation product.  Our next generation product is slated to enter field trials in 2026.

Ideally, the Software Engineering Manager will have experience with classified intelligence systems, software continuous integration (CI) development (Atlassian or GitLab), user experience (UX) design, test automation, containers and system automation.

As a member of the Software Intelligence team, you will be involved in the entire software development life cycle, from idea creation and development, all the way through customer delivery. Position Responsibilities:

  • Providing oversight and approval of technical approaches, strategic initiatives, products, add-ons, and processes (workflow)

  • Collaborating closely with our IT and cybersecurity colleagues to ensure cost-effective, timely, and secure deployment of our engineering development environment, tools, and workflow

  • Interfacing with programs across the Boeing enterprise in the planning, implementation and deployment of our product line technology

  • Leading the design/direction of next generation systems, technology evaluations, trade studies and strategy discussions

  • Developing and executing budget and staffing plans for the team

  • Securing and managing several budget pools for development and deployment efforts

  • Collaborating with other Boeing Defense Systems managers and team members across multiple sites for product implementations

  • Managing, developing, and motivating employees while modeling the Boeing Values and Behaviors

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 5+ years combined software development, integration & test experience or other complex computing systems experience

  • 3+ years of technical leadership/management experience

  • 5+ years using agile software development practices

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Engineering or related discipline

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years using the following toolset: Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, or GitLab

  • 3+ years in software development for Signals Intelligence systems

  • 3+ years developing software for single board computers using Linux OS or embedded computing environments

  • Current Active TS/SCI US Security Clearance

  • Experience working on DoD product strategies and roadmaps

  • MBA degree, technology, operations management, entrepreneurship, or data analysis

  • Ability to engage with senior leadership, technical team members, and varied Boeing business entities and external stakeholders. Ability to tie daily work to larger strategic direction

  • Able to create and contribute to the Intelligence Systems product vision and strategic directions

  • Performance Management: lean thinking, statistical process control, experience coaching and mentoring peers and/or reports in continuous improvement

  • Working knowledge of the CI/CD processes including debugging, test, automation, and integration of software tools

  • Strong communication skills and a self-starter that can thrive in a distributed work environment

Summary pay range / Manager Level K: $171,700 - $232,300 

Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
