The Boeing Global (BG) organization is responsible for leading the development and execution of enterprise-wide global, country, and regional strategies, in close coordination with the business and functional leaders.  It also takes the lead on international government relations, providing direction and management of the company’s interface activity with foreign governments and officials, industry leaders, policy and academic institutions in all areas of aerospace industry and related activities.  It provides guidance and coordination of enterprise-wide countries and regional strategies and policies to promote Boeing’s international business activities. 

Boeing Southeast Asia is looking for a Managing Director (Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia & Laos) to join the Boeing Global (BG) team. Based in Hanoi, Vietnam or Bangkok, Thailand, the role will work to establish and implement the company’s regional strategic vision for the four countries within the portfolio.

Position Responsibilities

This role reports to the President of Boeing Southeast Asia and Taiwan. The Managing Director leads (and supports where appropriate) the government relations of Boeing in Vietnam, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. He / She coordinates and collaborates with the business units, functions and other company entities (subsidiaries, joint ventures, etc.) to achieve their strategic goals and business objectives. The incumbent will leverage regional global resources, knowledge, and stakeholder relationships to expand their in-market presence and strengthen Boeing's competitive position in these countries. The person will seek to leverage intellectual, industrial, and financial capabilities. 

In particular, the role will include the following duties, in accordance with Company objectives, policies and procedures and the laws and business regulations of the U.S. and the host country:

  • Acts as a focal point for Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia & Laos and works closely across the Boeing enterprise to ensure an integrated approach to supporting growth in these countries. In close coordination with the President, Southeast Asia, helps develop the country strategies to address to business opportunities, issues, strategic choices and ways to meet business objectives.

  • Supports (or leads, as appropriate) on the implementation of enterprise and business initiatives. Actively supports Company efforts to enhance aviation safety, capacity and efficiency in these countries.

  • Acts as leader of the Vietnam Office and Boeing Global point of contact for site issues – including office planning; entity management responsibilities, staff engagements, budget management and governance. Drives functional integration (leading where appropriate).

  • Leads (or supports, as appropriate) all government relations activities in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia & Laos together with the SE Asia Government Relations team. Identifies critical local government stakeholders, develops and maintains relationships with them. Supports senior Boeing executives in gaining access to government officials and coordinates visits and briefings for Company leaders in these countries

  • Develops and strengthens relationships with all stakeholders, including country level and regional organizations (eg. The ASEAN Secretariat), business associations and community partners. 

  • Strengthens Boeing’s presence, stakeholder perceptions, and corporate brand. Positions the company as an integral part of the local ecosystems. Where appropriate, serves as company spokesperson to the media and to other external audiences.

  • Regularly interfaces with Boeing Business Units to enable an integrated approach to business, knowledge of key business, campaigns and partnership activities.  Although not directly accountable for profit/loss, Country Leader’s support to the Business Units will be provided in the spirit of working together as “one team” to achieve Business Unit objectives.

  • Works with Boeing Business Units for aligning community relations, university relations, Boeing Global Engagement activities and sponsorships across the region within the overall Company policy and guidelines

  • Acts as the in-house market expert and ensures team is kept up to date with significant market intelligence and geopolitical issues in these countries.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline is required.

  • Minimum of 15-20 years of relevant experiences in the area of general management, regulatory affairs, government relations, community leadership.

  • 15+ years of experience working with cross-functional or cross-business teams on significant projects, particularly where the majority of the team does not hardline report into the candidate. Demonstrated ability to navigate a complex, matrixed organizational structure.

  • Proven leadership skills in multicultural, multinational organization(s)  

  • Exemplary relationship development/management skills

  • Willingness to travel

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Masters in Business Administration, International Relations/Affairs or Aerospace Engineering is preferred

  • Prior experience doing business in SE Asia and/or Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia & Laos

  • Strong existing network across government, business and academia in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia & Laos

  • Strategy development and valuation skills/experience

  • Demonstrated business acumen

  • Critical analysis and creative thinking

  • Policy analysis & research

  • Program/Project management

  • High level cross-cultural awareness and management

  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English and Vietnamese

Other job related information

  • This requisition is for an international locally hired position. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.
