Boeing Global Services is currently seeking a highly motivated Lead Software Architect Engineer to become part of the Training Systems - Battlespace Simulation Management team in Hazelwood, MO.

Are you ready to build the future? Build your career by helping us build the next generation of flight simulators to train our nation’s military pilots. Develop subsystems for Boeing Flight Trainers such as the Instructor/Operator Station, Brief/Debrief Station, Synthetic Environments, and core building block technologies used for all our flight trainers (graphics, video, networking, mission planning, exercise management & control).

BSM is responsible for the design, development, manufacture, and maintenance of training devices for a wide variety of commercial and military aircraft - everything from F-15 fighter jets to Apache attack helicopters, and even NASA's Starliner spacecraft. Software engineers on our team are responsible for all phases of the software lifecycle, including architecture, design, implementation and test. They are also directly involved in planning their own work, as part of the agile methodology, with a focus on technical excellence.

The BSM team is a large software development team comprised of several smaller agile teams, some with specialized skills. Our backlog includes everything from new feature development using cutting-edge technology to maintenance of legacy software baselines. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working in an often fast-paced environment.  As an experienced member of the team, you will be supporting the entire product development life cycle within BSM.

Job Responsibilities:
•    Serve as the focal point for the team's products to all Boeing users & programs.
•    Collaborate closely with Product Managers to define system-level software features.
•    Provide technical leadership in day-to-day design and implementation decisions.
•    Decompose system-level features into executable backlog items with the team.
•    Write actionable user stories and maintain a groomed backlog for business stakeholder priorities, incorporating architectural changes recommended by engineering.
•    Work with developers and testers to create appropriate and executable acceptance criteria.
•    Enhance team productivity through a test-first mentality and acceptance test-driven development focus.
•    Ensure the development team’s products effectively address program priorities while maintaining technical integrity and cost and schedule targets.
•    Attend product management meetings, planning, and backlog/vision refinement sessions.
•    Participate in team and system demonstrations.
•    Coordinate feature dependencies across teams.
•    Actively participate in retrospectives and other improvement workshops.
•    Collaborate with teams to build and manage new features and capabilities while delivering the desired business impact.
•    Own the technical roadmap and non-functional requirements for the product.
•    Advocate for process improvements through an understanding of the engineering lifecycle and previous experience.
•    Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
•    Mentor junior engineers and foster innovation within the team.
•    Contributes to the development and enhancement of the toolset and Cost Reduction Initiative (CRI) processes.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
•    Execution and On-Time Delivery:
o    Percentage of projects delivered on or before the scheduled deadline.
o    Timeliness in completing user stories and backlog items.
•    Quality Assurance:
o    Number of defects reported post-release versus pre-release.
o    Adherence to coding standards and best practices, as measured by code reviews.
•    Safety Compliance:

o    Compliance with safety protocols and standards in software development and simulation processes.
•    Team Productivity:
o    Improvement in team velocity over time, measured by completed story points or backlog items.
o    Contribution to team retrospectives and implementation of process improvements.
•    Stakeholder Satisfaction:
o    Feedback from product managers and business stakeholders regarding the quality and effectiveness of delivered features.
o    Engagement in product management meetings and contribution to backlog refinement sessions.
•    Mentorship and Team Development:
o    Number of mentoring sessions conducted with junior engineers.
o    Improvement in junior engineers' performance and contributions to the team.
•    Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
o    Number of new tools, processes, or methodologies introduced to enhance team performance.
o    Participation in continuous improvement initiatives and workshops.
•    Simulation Effectiveness:
o    Accuracy and reliability of simulation outputs as validated against real-world scenarios.
o    Successful integration of simulation components with other systems or platforms.


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

•    10+ years of experience with Software Development lifecycle (including Requirements Analysis, Design, Code, Integration & Test)
•    10+ years of experience in programming in C/C++
•    3+ years of experience with Scaled Agile Framework enterprise (SAFe) or Agile
•    3+ years of experience managing or leading a team in the software development discipline
•    Experience with simulation standards such as Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), High Level Architecture (HLA)
•    Experience within the real-time simulation problem domain such as simulation system architectures, requirements, system interfaces and integration and test of real-time simulators

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

•    Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

•    10+ years of experience in Object Oriented Design and Programming
•    Experience as a Software Product Owner.
•    Experience with agile workflow tools such as VersionOne or JIRA.
•    Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
•    Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) certifications (SP, SSM, SASM, POPM, SPC).
•    Experience with aircraft platforms, aviation, simulation, and training systems.
•    Knowledge of simulation validation and verification processes.
•    Familiarity with simulation data management and analysis techniques.
•    Experience with creating and managing simulation scenarios and environments.

Travel: Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%)

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range: $161,500 - $218,500
