Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Airframe Structural Integrity Architect to join our Phantom Works team in Hazelwood, MO.

The engineer in this role will be instrumental in defining and executing the course that achieves the required structural integrity of a proprietary air vehicle airframe.  In collaboration with internal colleagues and external customers, the architect will have the opportunity to insert digital design and analysis advancements into the traditional structural airworthiness practices to ensure a robust and efficient process leading to the successful verification and validation of a next generation airframe.  The architect will be part of the technical leadership of the Structures IPT responsible for structural definition, integration, analysis – including loads and dynamics and fatigue and fracture – of the vehicle and report directly to the IPT Senior Manager.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize the structural analysis work statement at the airframe level such that it complies with and delivers the artifacts necessary to support all structural integrity requirements pertaining to the airframe

  • Provide guidance and direction to other structural analysis SMEs and TLEs to ensure alignment across multiple teams an sites with regard to structural analysis criteria, methods, and practices

  • Operate as the POC for both internal and external customers and stakeholders that require technical information regarding the structural integrity plans and deliverables associated with the development, build, and testing of the airframe

  • Partner with a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team of engineers to apply MBSE best practices related to digital design, analysis, and verification & validation efforts related to the airframe

  • Invest in the development of people, tools, and processes to advance the capabilities of the program, Phantom Works, BDS, and the Boeing enterprise in the domain of air vehicle structural integrity

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 20+ years of working experience with a Bachelor’s OR 18+ years with a Masters OR 14+ years with a PhD

  • Working knowledge of Airworthiness Certification processes (i.e. MIL-STD-516) and Aircraft Structural Integrity Program requirements (i.e. MIL-STD-1530)

  • Subject Matter Expertise in the domain of system level structural design criteria and practices including classical structural analysis techniques or composite and metallic airframe components, Finite Element Analysis of air vehicles, and durability and damage tolerance (DaDT) principles

  • Prior exposure to structural test planning, execution support, and data reduction

  • Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills including the ability to brief complicated technical subjects to stakeholders and customers

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams to consensus on complex engineering issues

Typical Education/Experience: 

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range: $166,600 - $225,400
