Boeing is seeking a Mid-Level Materials and Processes Engineer to join our Mechanical Systems team in Huntington Beach, California.  This role is for an engineer who shares a passion for mechanical and materials engineering with a mindset for technical analysis, investigation and testing.

The successful candidate will be experienced in the manufacturing processes of metallic fasteners and operation of heat treatment furnaces, pyrometry, and ability to adhere to Boeing’s specifications and quality requirements. This person will also have a strong understanding of metallurgy, including grain structure, metal forming techniques, and root cause investigation of metallic failures to support continuous process improvement.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists with definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of Boeing products

  • Drafts engineering specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes

  • Assists in evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application to business needs

  • Conducts and supports R&D testing in lab environment to meet programs requirements and qualification of products

  • Assists with development and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements

  • Assists in modeling, designing, and programming

  • Conducts routine analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts or processes

  • Assists in failure analysis strategies while implementing corrective and preventive actions

  • Uses project management tools to plan and implement project costs & schedule, technical requirements, and produce products

  • Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry

  • 2+ years of project management experience

  • 5+ years of experience with manufacturing processes for fasteners and/or bearings

  • 5+ years of experience with failure analysis and metallic structure

  • 3+ years of experience with tribology

  • 3+ years of experience working in a lab environment

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in operating machining equipment with the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, and select appropriate tooling and manufacturing processes to optimize production efficiency.

  • Demonstrate project management expertise, capable of independently managing multiple projects while maintaining schedule and budget in a dynamic environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of effective collaboration with suppliers and cross-functional teams

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in aerospace, material science, metallurgical engineering and/or mechanical engineering

  • Experience with Parts, Materials and Processes engineering in Aerospace industry

  • Experience leading and influencing cross-functional teams or projects

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $102,000 - $138,00
