The Boeing Company is looking for a Lead Software Engineer - Test & Verification to join the Space Launch System (SLS) Ground Systems and Integration (GS&I) team located in Huntsville, Alabama. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization.

Space Launch System Ground Systems and Integration represents a team of problem solvers whose primary goal is to develop and maintain software to ensure the SLS launch vehicles and associated products are ready for delivery to NASA.  The GS&I team develops and supports three key products: Electrical Ground Support Equipment, Enhanced Battery Charge/Discharge Equipment, and MAF Test Flight Computer.  The GS&I team directly supports ground based testing of the SLS vehicle for manufacturing and key test events.  The Test & Verification Technical Lead Engineer (TLE) will help bridge the gap between product development and product deployment with close ties to stakeholders in the Michoud Assembly Facility, Kennedy Space Center, Marshall Space Flight Center, and Stennis Space Center. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leading Software Test Team in the formal verification of the software requirements.
  • Support verification development and review of the Test Cases, Test Procedures and conduct Informal and Formal Test Readiness Review (TRR).
  • Leading Formal Qualification Tests (FQTs) with the test team, maintaining the run log and daily report.
  • Documentation of any issues and problem reports encountered during test using change control tools.
  • Weekly reporting of issue burnup charts and verification development status at program management review meetings.
  • Tracking the status of open issues identified during development, informal and formal test execution to closure to meet the deliverables.
  • Supporting/Analyzing internal and external customer Problem Report (PR) and acting as integrator for the Avionics Software Integration Panel (ASIP) working with Software TLE, Avionics Integration Lab TLE, and Models and Sim TLE.
  • Release all the software life cycle documents per the Boeing Process.
  • Leading and supporting Test-Aid development.
  • Leading test team to identify lab configuration needs. (Hardware, Software, Test-Aid etc)
  • Leading team to meet the compliance to software development and verification processes in support of internal and external Audit with Quality Assurance team.
  • Leading team to develop Software Verification Life Cycle documents.
  • Support Change Control Board (CCB) activities related to Software Verification process.
  • Planning for Deliverables (Verification Plans, Requirement Deviations, Requirements, Test Reports etc) to meet milestones.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in C/C++
  • 10+ years of experience in Real-time Operating System (RTOS) based development and Testing
  • 10+ years of experience in unit testing, static analysis, and dynamic analysis toolsets
  • 3+ years of experience in technical or team leadership
  • 3+ years of experience in CI/CD frameworks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Ability to establish test requirements from supporting documentation, test plans, internal and external customers. Knowledge of domestic and international regulations (e.g. FAA, DOD, and NASA regulations) on the certification of test articles/vehicles to assure compliance of design.
  • Knowledge of verification, validation, certification and qualification processes and procedures, including knowledge of governing regulations and compliance requirements. Ability to assess and document test or analysis data to show compliance.
  • Knowledge of appropriate customer or governmental regulations relevant to design, test, and certification (e.g., Part 25, MILSPEC).
  • Knowledge of specification format requirements, guidelines, and change control processes. Understanding of relationship between specifications/standards and aircraft/product certification systems.
  • Knowledge of various engineering disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, and systems. The ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and issues impacting design, production, and support of products, services, or other deliverables.
  • Knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ability to design and develop automation of software tests, execute automated tests, track results, manage test data, and utilize results to improve software quality.
  • Knowledge of implementation of software test frameworks, tools and simulations. Knowledge of internal and external software test frameworks, architectures, best practices and application in industry.
  • Knowledge of software practices (e.g., configuration control, change management, problem reporting, software design, peer review, testing, and T&E specific practices), programming languages, operating systems and computing technology applicable to laboratory and flight test systems, including real-time, non-real-time, network-centric, monitoring and control applications.
  • Knowledge of test program design (e.g., design of experiments, test plan development, validation).

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range: $ 141,100 - $190,900
