The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Fire Inspector to join the team in Moses Lake, WA

The Boeing Fire Department is one of the country’s largest Industrial fire departments. Boeing firefighters provide a safe working environment to employees and customers, supports aircraft production, support flightline activities, provide risk deduction inspections, and respond to emergencies and disasters at Moses Lake.

Candidates hired into the position of Fire Inspector 1 or Fire Inspector 2 job classifications will not be required to hold an ICC Fire Inspector I certification as a minimum qualification but must obtain ICC Fire Inspector I certification within 18 months of hire. Such employees shall be required to hold the Firefighter 1 certification upon being hired.

Candidates hired into or employed in the position of Fire Inspector 1 and Fire Inspector 2 job classifications will be permitted to hold an AHA BLS CPR Provider certification or equivalent in lieu of an EMT-B certification.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field inspections and apply command media to ensure compliance with fire protection requirements

  • Monitor, enforce, and document compliance with locally adopted fire code and associated local fire protection requirements/amendments

  • Reference fire code relating to the inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems

  • Implement Boeing policy, procedure, and practice relating to fire prevention

  • Establish national and local recognized fire prevention codes, standards, and applicable methods

  • Coordinate, supervise and conduct (as appropriate) the inspection, maintenance and testing of the fire protection systems to meet the requirements under National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, NFPA 25 Standard for Inspection, Testing, Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems, and equivalent standards

  • Identify corrective actions to ensure that properties and systems comply with federal/ state laws, municipal ordinances, applicable fire codes, contractual requirements, Boeing policy, and industry standards

  • Document violations and corrective actions within computer-based tracking applications such as ESO

  • Follow up on violation resolution and corrective actions until closure with employees and first level management

  • Keep the Deputy Chief and Fire Prevention Captain (as appropriate) informed of all Fire Inspections and prevention activities

  • Maintain all fire protection system Inspection, Test and Maintenance records for all system inspections in computer-based tracking software such as ESO in accordance with the record retention schedule

  • Witness the acceptance testing of fire protection systems in accordance with the relevant design standards as Boeing’s Fire Protection representative

  • Coordinate with Boeing Fire Protection Engineering as required to ensure appropriate site fire protection is maintained

  • Perform reviews of operations, construction, and facility plans and drawings, relating to compliance with egress system design, portable fire extinguishers, emergency responder access, fire protection system naming and point identification, and general configuration of systems

  • Review and compares new construction, including fire protection system modifications, with previously approved plans, identifying and resulting discrepancies, communicating discrepancies to the responsible organization, and following up to ensure discrepancies are resolved in accordance with the applicable codes, standards and the policies of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ)

  • Coordinate with firefighters, site services, construction management, contractors and outside agencies in the performance of their duties

  • Respond to and support emergencies involving company personnel, buildings, equipment and environment, as requested.

  • Respond to and provide emergency medical care, as requested.

  • Respond to Structure and automotive emergencies, as requested.

  • Respond to Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) incidents, as requested.

  • Respond to Confined Space Rescue emergencies, as requested.

  • Respond to Hazardous Materials incidents, as requested.

  • Respond to fire and hazardous alarms, as requested.

  • Perform service request for fire department support and resources.

  • Inspect fire protection systems and equipment.

  • Participate in hot work control activities.

  • Participate in fire protection system service requests and impairment activities.

  • Participate in training activities and instruction sessions

  • Conduct training for external customers in emergency preparedness and safety skills

  • Maintain required skills to ensure job proficiency

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Current valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Washington State driver’s license within 30 days of employment

  • State, IFSAC or Proboard Firefighter 1 certification

  • Ability to pass and maintain an annual Firefighter/HazMat physical and stress test

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • State, IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter 2 Certification

  • FAA, IFSAC or Pro Board Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting certification

  • Current National Registry, Washington State, or other United States state Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification

  • Ability to apply for reciprocity within 30 days of your start date and obtain reciprocity within 6 months of your start date

  • Ability to become a Hazardous Materials Technician within 1 year of your hire date

  • Experience as a full-time, part-time or volunteer Firefighter

  • Experience with Aircraft Rescue Firefighting

  • Experience with building and fire codes, modern fire prevention principles, procedures and equipment

  • Experience working with hazardous materials

  • Experience with building and fire codes, modern fire prevention principles, procedures and equipment

  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Project

  • Experience building relationships and partnering with all levels of employees, including executives

  • Experience applying risk management and mitigation principles

  • Experience with aircraft rescue firefighting

  • Experience with Security & Fire Protection or uniform security policies, procedures, disciplines and requirements

Union Representation:

This is an hourly position represented by the International Association of Firefighters, Local I-66.

Summary pay range: $37.00 – $49.23

This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
