Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Rework Investigator and Inspector to join our Quality team in Moses Lake, Washington.

As a Rework Investigator and Inspector, you will play a key role in examining and evaluating parts and assemblies to ensure they meet precise specifications. This position demands strong analytical skills and attention to detail to identify discrepancies and determine appropriate actions such as rework, rejection, or acceptance. You will act as a crucial liaison between departments, facilitating communication and coordination to maintain smooth production flow. Your contributions directly affect manufacturing efficiency and product integrity, making this role both challenging and rewarding for those who enjoy technical problem-solving and collaboration. Please note that certification for visual acuity and color perception may be required at some locations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Inspect parts, assemblies, materials, tools, and processes to identify discrepancies, determine disposition (scrap, rework, or use-as-is), and take corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Review and verify non-conformance reports (NCRs), engineering problem documents (EPDs), and related paperwork for completeness and accuracy.

  • Perform precise measurements using tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to establish reference points and check dimensions.

  • Initiate, update, and manage re-inspection requests (R/Rs), including identifying Parts Control Area (PCA) locations, bin freezes, and routing to appropriate queues.

  • Conduct re-inspections by investigating discrepancies, reviewing documentation (drawings, specifications, manufacturing plans), and determining appropriate inspection durations.

  • Separate conforming and non-conforming parts; release good parts to PCA and route discrepant parts to Material Review and Scrap Areas (MRSA) or suppliers as required.

  • Initiate NCR/EPD rejections for discrepant parts, documenting conditions, locations, and correct configurations with references to drawings and specifications.

  • Receive, verify, and locate non-conforming parts and assemblies with proper documentation, ensuring accuracy of part numbers, serial numbers, and quantities.

  • Route or deliver parts and assemblies to appropriate areas such as rework shops or other MRSA locations per Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions.

  • Coordinate with internal and external customers, providing status updates on R/Rs and rejections, and support investigations by supplying additional information as needed.

  • Interface with engineering, planning, quality assurance, and rework shops to clarify issues and support corrective actions.

  • Maintain and update control of red label, restricted use, and temporary use parts in relevant databases.

  • Provide remote site support for flight test airplanes as required.

  • Maintain personal and tool certifications necessary for job functions.

  • Initiate and approve rework orders, submit drawing change requests, and recommend process improvements.

  • Communicate with engineering, supervisory personnel, and others to obtain information and recommend corrective actions.

  • Perform audits and surveillance of manufacturing and quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with specifications and procedures.

  • Plan and organize own work sequence, perform necessary layouts and mathematical computations, and refer complex or questionable cases to supervisors.

  • Use and interpret production documents, specifications, drawings, and precision measuring instruments to accomplish work assignments.

  • Contact team leader or supervisor when assistance is needed or when problems arise.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs. to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience as a Quality Inspector or related industry.

  • 1+ years of experience with precision measurement equipment.

  • 1+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.                                                                                    

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to walk constantly throughout the workday; stand 6-8 hours per day; climb or work from stairs/steps up to 8 hours per day; climb ladders; bend and twist frequently up to six hours per day; squat and kneel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Aerospace, Manufacturing, Quality, or experience in a regulated industry.

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

  • This position offers transportation benefits from home origin. Company paid housing assistance and meal allowance may be available for candidates residing outside of the Moses Lake vicinity.

Pay: $26.32/hour, with potential to earn up to $56.36/hour in accordance with the terms of the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
