Job Description

At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. We’re committed to fostering an environment for every teammate that’s welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunity for professional growth. Find your future with us.

The Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) 787 Engineering Organization has an exciting opportunity for an Airplane Level Integration (ALIT) Engineering Manager (Level K) to join and lead the Engineering Operations group in North Charleston, SC.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a cross-functional team of engineers and technicians dedicated to 787 airplane-level integration. You will ensure that engineering activities remain synchronized with program and business objectives by consistently applying enterprise gated development, non-recurring product development, Readiness Levels (RL), and change-management practices across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and supporting functions. This role requires a strategic leader with deep expertise across the full airplane value stream — development, production, certification and fleet support — and a proven track record of managing both recurring and non-recurring program activities.

The ideal candidate is a high-integrity, servant-minded leader who thrives in a complex, matrixed environment and possesses a strong bias for action. They are an exceptional communicator, capable of translating technical challenges for business leaders and navigating negotiations with both technical and commercial stakeholders. Beyond technical expertise, they foster a culture of safety and engineering excellence by mentoring teammates, valuing differences, and leveraging decisive problem-solving necessary to manage ambiguity and drive results.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of engineers and technicians within Engineering Operations to support the 787-airplane program

  • Own day-to-day execution of engineering operations activities that enable IPTs to meet program milestones and production commitments

  • Drive consistent application of gated processes and non-recurring product development best practices across all IPTs

  • Coordinate across Systems, Structures, Avionics, Manufacturing, Certification, Supply Chain and Program Management to ensure engineering alignment and timely issue resolution

  • Lead or support engineering change management activities (Change requests, ODA interactions, deviation/waiver processes), ensuring traceability, technical rigor and timely disposition

  • Monitor program-wide engineering health (schedule, technical risk, open action backlogs) and escalate to Program and business leaders as required

  • Establish and maintain operational metrics, dashboards and status reporting for leadership and stakeholders

  • Facilitate cross-functional readiness reviews and gates, ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed

  • Support certification and fleet support activities as required; ensure lessons learned are captured and fed into continuous improvement

  • Lead technical projects that are highly integrated across many engineering functions, IPTs or business units

  • Manage staffing, performance objectives, resource allocation and subcontractor/consultant support within Engineering Operations

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 7+ years of aerospace engineering experience

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering leadership role (either as a lead or a manager)

  • 5+ years of experience providing technical leadership for an engineering team performing change management, configuration management or data management

  • 5+ years of experience in leading and partnering with cross-functional teams, involving key stakeholder relationship management

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with recurring and non-recurring activities within the aerospace industry or Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA)

  • Experience with ODA/FAA engagements and certification artifact preparation

  • Demonstrated success in building and leading high‑performing engineering teams

  • Experience with Lean, Agile, or other continuous improvement methodologies applied to engineering operations

  • Familiarity with configuration management systems and program management tools

  • Expert working knowledge of the enterprise standard gated process and non-recurring product development lifecycle
