Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking Composite Fabrication Specialists (Level B or C) to assist with multiple areas of the 787 production system in North Charleston, South Carolina on a variable shift!

This role offers an exciting opportunity within a dynamic manufacturing assembly environment. Team members will leverage their prior experience, and the knowledge gained from training and certifications to complete daily assigned tasks effectively.

Individuals will be responsible for identifying their work locations on advanced airplanes, parts, and tooling by interpreting intricate drawings to accurately complete detailed work instructions. Attention to detail and procedure compliance is critical to identify all necessary hand tools, parts, and equipment required to ensure defect-free work. Primary Responsibilities:   

  • Safety: Adhering strictly to all safety protocols and guidelines to protect ourselves, our colleagues, and our workplace. Safety is non-negotiable and must be integrated into every task we perform.

  • Quality: Maintaining rigorous quality standards in all deliverables, ensuring that our work meets or exceeds expectations and complies with all regulatory and company requirements.

  • Must successfully complete the new hire foundational training to obtain and maintain all required certifications.

  • Proficient use of a computer in a dynamic production environment.

  • Look up/read/comprehend electronic technical work instructions, drawings and/or specifications.

  • Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment determined by the task performed.

  • Operate various mechanical lifts (e.g. ladders, tiger and snorkel lifts).

  • Use various hand tools and diagnostic equipment such as screwdrivers, ratchets, power screwdriver multi meters, continuity testers.

  • Apply chemical solvents, sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, paints and special finishes.

  • Inspect your work quality and check for Foreign Object Debris.

  • Work around energized sources (electrical equipment and hazards/shock, e.g. circuit breakers and wiring) and exposure to constant noise.

  • Finger manipulation (keyboarding, other).

  • Lifting and carrying up to 10-35 pounds.

  • Climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), crawling, crouching (squatting).

  • Flexion/Extension (head bent down, head bent back), handling, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching (overhead), rotation of head/neck, standing, twisting at the waist and walking.

  • Experience with conventional material layup, precision measuring, power, pneumatic and hand tools

  • Ability to obtain CNC Experience.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Ability to work a variable shift as noted further below.

  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role such as flexion and extension (head bent down, head bent back), handling, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, rotation of head/neck, standing, twisting at the waist and walking, climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), crawling, crouching (squatting).

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 10-35 pounds.

  • Ability to work with high-hazard chemicals

  • Ability to complete and maintain Confined Space and Fall Protection certifications, as required

  • 1+ years of experience using software applications such as internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or other specialized computer applications

  • 1+ years of experience following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications, in English

  • 1+ years of experience applying mathematical calculations

  • 1+ years of experience in a technical, or mechanical field performing work with basic hand, power, and/or pneumatic (air) tools.

  • 1+ years of experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly processes and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 3+ years of CNC experience.

  • 3+ years of experience with conventional material layup, precision measuring, power, pneumatic and hand tools.

  • 3+ years of crane operations experience.

  • 3+ years of experience reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, material processes, schematic and diagrams in aviation.

Shift:

This position is for a variable shift (shift 4).  Variable shift means you will be placed on a shift at the time of hire based on business needs at that time. You will remain on that shift until re-evaluation is needed.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range level B: $54,000 - $64,000​

Summary pay range level C: $61,200 - $64,500​
