Boeing Commercial Airplanes is hiring for a Aircraft Troubleshooting Specialist (Mid-level or Senior) to work at our North Charleston, SC or Seal Beach, CA location.  The Boeing Company is seeking driven problem solvers to join our Charlie Works team. Charlie Works is a specialized, highly experienced and qualified Systems Engineering team dedicated to supporting Boeing products and customers globally.

Charlie Works develops industry leading diagnostic tools and proactive techniques to prevent and resolve challenging aircraft system faults and improve fleet quality and reliability. The team travels globally in support of internal and external customer requests for troubleshooting assistance, proactive inspection development, and troubleshooting training. With a unique combination of past aircraft maintenance experience and engineering level system analysis, the team is ideally positioned to challenge the status quo and lead the industry in developing and deploying new Proactive Maintenance tools and methods to address aircraft systems and avionics issues.

Charlie Works is part of Boeing Field Service and is based with Boeing Customer Support in Seal Beach, CA or N. Charleston, SC. Charlie Works is currently expanding its reach and impact through a growing team and is seeking dynamic individuals to support this growth and further establish Charlie Works as an industry leader. This position is being posted for multiple locations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain relationships and interactions with different internal groups to represent Charlie Works and drive cross-functional integration.

  • Develop effective systematic troubleshooting workplans beyond the scope of the Fault Isolation Manual to resolve repeatable systems and avionics faults.

  • Understand and apply common troubleshooting tools, such as a multimeter, insulation resistance meter, TDR, current clamp, etc., in on-wing/hands-on troubleshooting scenarios.

  • Perform root-cause analysis on customer logbook and component teardown information to identify common failure trends and opportunities to increase dispatch reliability.

  • Work with the Boeing Customer Support team to develop, validate, publish, and implement new and innovative proactive aircraft inspection tasks using common diagnostic tools and methods.

  • Provide customer training related to common proactive maintenance and troubleshooting tools and methods.

  • Effectively prepare and present technical information to internal and external customers.

  • Assists senior Charlie Works specialists with troubleshooting workplan development and execution for complex/intermittent systems and avionics faults.

  • Support coordination of responses to Boeing and Customer requests for troubleshooting assistance, onsite tech assistance and virtual.

  • Assist senior Charlie Works specialists with research and development of new/advanced diagnostic tools and methods. 

  • Travel for work approximately 30% of the time on very short notice to any location around the world.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience developing solutions to a wide range of complex and challenging technical problems, requiring ingenuity and innovation to identify unique solutions.

  • 5+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design)

  • Aircraft systems/avionics maintenance training consisting of one of the following:

    • FAA or EASA aircraft maintenance license with advanced electrical training such as

      • NCATT Aircraft Electronics Technician certificate

      • FCC General Radiotelephone Operators license

      • military electrical training

      • B2 mechanics’ license

    • Applied aircraft systems/avionics maintenance experience

      • Any of the aircraft maintenance training listed above

      • Previous role developing and/or performing troubleshooting workplans

      • Previous role developing and/or performing fleet reliability solutions

      • Previous role as an aircraft or electronics technician

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 9+ years of experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design)

  • 3+ years of experience with avionics workshop experience troubleshooting down to sub-component (IC, transistor, capacitor, resistor, diode) level

  • 3+ years of experience troubleshooting airplanes using common test equipment such as a multimeter, insulation resistance meter, TDR, current clamp, etc.

  • 2+ years of experience with ACMS/AHM (digital) troubleshooting

  • Experience developing and delivering training materials

  • Background in customer and/or airline maintenance operations

  • Leadership and/or project management experience.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Mid-Level: $91,800- $124,200

Senior Level: $113,900 - $154,100

Seal Beach, CA

Mid-Level: $98,600- $133,400

Senior Level: $121,500 - $164,450
