Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a Payloads Engineering Senior Manager (Level L) to join the Seat Integration Team (SIT) based in North Charleston, South Carolina.

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of electrical, mechanical, and multi-skill engineers responsible for the installation, certification, and integration of passenger and attendant seats on the 787 airplane program. In this role you will serve as the Seats Airplane Leader to the 787 program, driving seat product development through the Seat & IFEC Integration Team (SIT) Supplier Aligned Integrated Product Teams (SA-IPT) and ensuring close coordination between SIT SA-IPTs and 787 Interiors IPT. You will lead factory and field seat activities, providing factory support in partnership with liaisons, acting as the prime for risk mitigation, and directing pre-certification and certification walk activities. A key part of the role is to lead seat installation certification efforts, working with SA-IPTs to identify and resolve certification issues (PACER); including the development and execution of installation certification plans while recognizing that component-level certification responsibility remains with the SA-IPTs. You will also drive integration with other interiors commodities using coordination tools such as Stone Soup and Coordination Sheets to ensure seamless interfaces and timely issue resolution across teams.

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with strong program management and systems integration skills, deep knowledge of aircraft interiors and certification, and proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and suppliers. Experience as an airplane-level technical or product integration lead, managing factory and field activities, and familiarity with avionics/interiors coordination tools and PACER workflows is highly desirable. This position requires a proactive leader who balances technical rigor with practical execution to deliver safe, compliant, and customer-focused seat installations on the 787 platform.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages, develops, and motivates employees and first-level managers performing engineering and technical activities across multiple disciplines.

  • Keeps safety and quality at the forefront of all activities.

  • Utilizes broad Interiors domain knowledge and experience to solve complex problems and effectively manage ambiguity, including dynamic program schedules.

  • Applies creativity and innovative thinking to develop solutions that meet customer and Boeing needs.

  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risks early by leveraging program management best practices.

  • Advise and influence managers and employees to ensure schedule adherence, optimize overall performance, and resolve technical or operational issues effectively.

  • Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance standards.

  • Participates in establishing and administering multiple projects.

  • Develops and executes integrated departmental plans, policies, and procedures, and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, and objectives.

  • Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers, and leads process improvements.

  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners, and direct reports.

  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)

  • 3+ years of experience as a manager leading engineering teams.

  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering related role.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Experience with Seat Integration Team.

  • Experience with the 787 airplane program.

  • Experience working with suppliers on technically demanding projects.

  • Experience working across the value stream including design, supplier production, airplane production, and fleet support.

  • Strong understanding of Interior certification processes and requirements.

  • Proficient in solving complex problems and managing ambiguity in dynamic program schedules.

  • Proactive risk identification and mitigation using program management best practices.

  • Creative and innovative thinker, developing solutions that meet customer and Boeing needs.

  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Strong skills in building trust and collaboration with teams and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated success in team building, coaching, and employee development to enhance performance and engagement.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range:$164,900 - $223,100
