Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for a Gear Cell Machinist to join our Fabrication team in Portland, Oregon.

As a Gear Cell Machinist, you will be at the heart of our precision engineering operations, where your skills will shape the future of aerospace technology. You will engage in hands-on machining processes, utilizing your expertise to set up, adjust, and operate various machines while ensuring that every component meets stringent quality standards. Position Responsibilities:

  • Independently set up, adjust, and operate a variety of machines in the gear cutting cell, including turning, reaming, drilling, tapping, chamfering, and gear cutting, to produce finished gears that meet quality requirements.

  • Utilize precision measuring instruments and gear testing machines to complete and verify work assignments, providing part quality information and statistics as needed.

  • Interpret charts, tables, blueprints, formulas, sketches, and verbal orders to accomplish assigned tasks effectively.

  • Make necessary preparations and adjustments to ensure proper machine operation throughout the production process.

  • Detect faulty tools and equipment, taking corrective action in accordance with shop practices and procedures to maintain operational efficiency.

  • Recommend process improvements to enhance productivity and quality within the gear cutting cell.

  • Perform additional gear finishing processes, such as sandblasting, heat treating, cleaning, and deburring, as required to complete the production of gears.*not processing just machining

  • Coordinate the preparation and movement of materials within the gear cutting cell to ensure a smooth workflow.

  • Follow established sequences of operations and predetermined machine control data to maintain consistency and quality in production.

  • Maintain and organize tools, fixtures, and equipment to ensure they are readily available and in good working condition.

  • Collaborate with team members to optimize production processes and resolve any issues that may arise during operations.

  • Document production activities and maintain accurate records of work performed, including any adjustments made to machinery.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards throughout all machining and finishing processes.

  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to gear cutting and machining.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to machinery and production processes as needed.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5 + years machining experience.

  • Experience working with tool and cutter grinding processes, prototype development, or fabrication processes.

  • Experience working on multiple projects concurrently

  • Experience programming and setting up CNC Machines (i.e. lathes, grinders, mills, etc.)

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 35 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience gear cell machining/cutting

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred. 

Relocation:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range: $31.00 - $54.24 per hour
