Boeing Commercial Airlines is looking for an Equipment and Tool Designer to join our Hole Preparation team in the Greater Seattle area of Washington.

As an Equipment and Tool Designer, you will be the backbone of our operational efficiency, ensuring that our tools are always ready for action. This exciting role places you at the forefront of innovation, where your expertise in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of power feed drilling operations will directly impact our production capabilities. You will engage in hands-on problem-solving, utilizing your technical skills to breathe new life into essential equipment, all while collaborating with a dynamic team.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate, Mid-Level and Senior Level Equipment and Tool Designers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and correct malfunctions for all types of power feed drilling equipment.
  • Create documentation to define how to correctly setup and use power feed equipment on various areas of the product.
  • Work from sketches, specifications, blueprints, and verbal information, utilizing precision instruments for accurate measurements.
  • Assist mechanics with necessary bench operations and inspections for essential preventive maintenance.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure the manufacturing plan can be executed with a high degree of success.
  • Ensure all safety processes and features are properly implemented during tool repair operations.
  • Adjust and repair power feed equipment, including adjusting feed and speed rates as requested.
  • Assist toolroom mechanics on aircraft production calls when portable tools malfunction on job sites.
  • Maintain tool certifications as required to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Travel between Boeing sites, as-needed.
  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10lbs to 35lbs.
  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.
  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.
  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.
  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.
  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience (Associates degree OR 2 years' related work experience)
  • 1+ years of experience using basic math (e.g. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
  • 1+ years of experience working with detailed work instructions or reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings
  • Basic computer experience and competence (Microsoft Office, internet browsing, E-mail communications, etc.)
  • Ability to work overtime based on business requirements

Preferred qualifications:

  • Level 3: 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 4: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Hydraulic / pneumatic experience or training
  • 2+ years of experience maintaining and repairing drill motors
  • 1+ year of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools
  • Experience with CAD software (CATIA, ProE, AutoCAD, etc.)

Pay and Benefits:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range for Associate Level (Level 2): $56,950 - $77,050

Summary pay range for Mid-Level (Level 3): $68,000 - $92,000

Summary pay range for Senior Level (Level 4): $80,750 - $109,250
