Position Responsibilities

  • Independently set up, adjust, and operate numerically controlled automated spar assembly tools to perform drilling, reaming, countersinking, and riveting in accordance with production and quality requirements.

  • Prepare, locate, and clamp components in the tool, ensuring that power supplies, air pressures, and coolant levels are adequate and properly regulated.

  • Ensure that control media are current and correctly loaded for operation and recognize any discrepancies or malfunctions in machines or associated equipment.

  • Detect faulty tools and take corrective action according to shop practices and procedures.

  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, planning orders, and machine operation instructions to guide assembly processes.

  • Select, install, and adjust necessary tools and accessories for each setup, including nosepieces, drill bits, reamers, and rivet injectors.

  • Use measuring instruments, gauges, and shop tools to perform rework, hand drilling, reaming, shimming, riveting, and assembly bench work.

  • Review production orders and set up documents to prepare for the job setup, ensuring all necessary materials and instructions are available.

  • Obtain pre-picked detail parts, ensuring part numbers match those specified in work orders and drawings.

  • Operate automated spar assembly tools manually when required, ensuring safe working conditions throughout the process.

  • Apply sealant to cords and spars at appropriate stages of the assembly process, following work orders and specifications.

  • Locate cords and spars on the Fixture Assembly Jig (FAJ) with a team or using an overhead crane, verifying proper indexing per tooling requirements.

  • Retrieve and download Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programs to the machine controller, ensuring accurate operation.

  • Set machine coordinates or index points per program documents, including cutter offsets and probes, using the controller keyboard and digital readouts.

  • Select and check cutters/drills per program or CNC documents, ensuring they are the correct type, length, diameter, and in good condition; replace worn or defective tools as necessary.

  • Load and unload cutters following program information or setup documents, using appropriate hand tools.

  • Monitor machine operation for unusual vibrations or sounds and troubleshoot or adjust settings as necessary to ensure smooth operation.

  • Perform hand assembly work by locating and marking detail positions on spars, applying sealant, and placing components into marked positions.

  • Run all media programs from CNC to drill, chamfer, and install fasteners, ensuring compliance with CNC documents.

  • Verify tool and cutter changes by running calibration test coupons and ensuring that hole dimensions and fastener characteristics meet specifications.

  • Perform minor editing of CNC programs as required to meet shop requirements.

  • Check work after each operation to ensure parts are complete per drawings and free of defects.

  • Consult with management and other departments on process or job-related issues as required.

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulations and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

  • Maintain personal and tool certifications, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs. to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience working with mechanical or structures related statements of work, such as construction, aerospace, automotive, maritime or similar industry; this can include education and military.

  • 1+ years of experience reading, interpreting or working from engineering drawings/blueprints or 3-dimensional Computer Aided Design applications

  • 1+ years of experience using software applications for internet navigation, email, Microsoft Suite and/or other specialized computer applications.

  • 3+ years of experience using hand tools and/or hand-held power tools

  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating CNC (Computer Numerical Controlled) machine tools

  • Experience working with hazardous materials

  • Experience using hand and/or air (pneumatic) tools

  • Experience with precision measurement equipment

  • Analytic, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience with any of the following: power-feed drilling, hand drilling, drill equipment, drill bits, cutters, cutter design, drill bushings, and/or drill nosepieces

  • Experience working with various material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks and cranes

Conflict of Interest:
Successful candidates for this position must successfully complete the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.

Typical Education & Experience:

High school graduate or GED preferred.

Relocation:

This position is in a location that does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Shift:

This position is for 2nd Shift.

Summary pay range: $27.32/hour, with potential to earn up to $57.88/hour in accordance with the terms of the relevant collective bargaining agreement.
